It works when I'm focused on it! Which is hard, as you point out. It's a practice like anything else. But yes, when I'm dialed in to it, I get along great with my family, my business hums along, money comes in the door, and I feel great. Meditation in the morning is really key for me to "get out ahead of it", as AH says. Stick with it - you'll be incredibly glad you did! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] any gastro mom? Other MD who might know? I have often had minor stomach issues (some cramping, gas, etc) have done multiple tests (last colonoscopy was in Nov) all is good, my doc believes it is bouts of IBS, primarily because I am extremely sensitive and I realize stress could be a factor at times. I am 50, eat well, exercise, no junk and started to avoid certain healthy foods that trigger some issues (ice cream/milk/cabbage/beans etc) after doing great even during quarantine, almost 2 weeks ago I started dealing w a lot of gas. Upon waking up, and in the evening mostly. But also at other times throughout the day. I eat and then almost immediately have an urge to go to the bathroom (in the morning) have had complete bm, but sometimes twice in a few hrs and then again once after dinner... I know it is not terrible, but it does bother me and I don't understand what I need to change... Do not want to go see a doctor right now. I just hope this too will pass on its own. Yes, I have been dealing with stress lately on top of general pandemic. Maybe this is one of the causes. Thanks for any advice. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Wow, this is me exactly except I am 41. I too eat very healthy and exercise, mostly follow a whole foods diet a la Nutrition Facts. But since last year I have had gastro issues including uncomfortable flatulence, frequent BM. I started to keep a food diary and have found certain things cause gastro issues for me: most dairy, beans, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage. It is unfortunate because like you say, these things are quite healthy foods, but I don't like the discomfort they cause. My solution has been to eat these things earlier in the day as our digestive tract really slows down at the end of the day. I am also eating smaller amounts of these, and trying to get my gut bacteria used to digesting these things, and hopefully in the future I can eat more. [ Reply | More ]

I'm not sure what you are asking. Sounds like he is getting ready for a growth spurt. Other than the cheetos, I don't see the issue with those foods. When my kids were at those stages, I would make sure the fridge was full of foods they could easily eat. One of mine could eat chicken cutlets like nobody's business, so I would make a huge batch (like 4 pounds) on Sunday so he could easily grab a few out of the fridge whenever he wanted. My DD loved mac & cheese so I would make a huge tray and leave that in the fridge. [ Reply | More ]

Of course you should do what you feel comfortable doing. If $100-200 makes more sense then that’s what you should do. It’s a little silly asking on UB when HHI varies so much. If you want to lessen the pressure later on for your SIL/BIL then do less. [ Reply | More ]

I hear ya. DK how you grew up, but I know the pressure my parents felt as they were the least well off between the two different families - well tied in one and the other sibling hated my father and the other sister for being born, so there were never any gifts from her. I normally do not consider but this is family and we hope to be entwined till our last days. The relationship has not always been a good one and the SIL made comments about generous gifts we made nearl 2 years ago. P.S. I was only asking for college as we have precedent for the HS. I understand, but it's a slippery slope that no one can accurately account for. I had a friend tell me to stop buying her gifts because she couldn't afford to reciprocate and she felt bad. I understood, but I felt bad not being able to celebrate her events. I couldn't even take her out for a drink because she felt bad about not reciprocating on my birthday. DH's family must write down every gift ever given to them so they can exactly match it. However, there isn't always an exact match (e.g., 10 years have passed or that person has 4 kids vs. 1, etc.) So, there are ALWAYS hurt feelings and someone being offended. You can't win, so don't play the game. [ Reply | More ]

In your situation, I would do $100-250. We have 1mm HHI and don't plan on giving anything (to either side), other than a card or email. I'm Chinese-American and DH is a WASP. It wasn't customary for my family to give $ for milestones, my parents would do a hefty contribution to help siblings buy a house or whatever. In DH's family (MC-UMC), they do cards/emails, no cash for any milestones. With our siblings (who have younger kids), we've contributed to downpayments (DH's sister asked and we matched that amount for all other siblings). [ Reply | More ]

Broker mom: A land-lease building means that the co-op doesn't own the land under its building. Instead, there is a rental agreement with the owner of the land. The devil is in the details of that rental agreement; what are the built-in resets? What happens when that agreement expires in 2070? Land leases sometimes make sense (a lot of Battery Park City I think is okay) but they're generally situations to avoid. [ Reply | More ]

Maintenance on any land lease building is going to be astronomical compared to similar buildings because the co-op has to pay rent on the land. But if $2800 sounds expensive to you, I'm guessing you are looking into studios or 1-brs? Both are so, so hard to resell (studios especially). op- posted a reply above, what worries me is that A) so hard to not go to bathroom (especially if I drink) I always try to avoid bathroom on plane but may need to go before boarding and this seems an issue now. B) can't find any more wipes, and even before Covid I would sanitize all surfaces on plane (w dh making fun of me) now that I really want to even more, not sure how if I'm out of wipes. Thanks for your feedback. Did you have to take mask off and then on again? This is also an issue - I guess security check will make ppl remove their mask? [ Reply | More ]

you lift your mask for 3 seconds when you check in with your ID at security, then you put it back down. you go to the bathroom as soon as you get on the plane (that is when it is the cleanest) and you bring purell (make your own if you can't find it to buy) and use it before and after the bathroom visit. don't drink anything if it makes you pee more... it's only a short time. use your purell on a clean tissue to wipe down things on the plane. Our family had to take a 4 hour flight in mid-May. Not many people on the plane (and no, they put families together in a row of three) if you want space you could buy tickets separately. We wore masks wiped stuff down. Sprayed bags with disinfectant on arriving and wore dickies jumpsuits over very light clothes. took them off. We seem to be ok. But I'm not super careful about this. We wore masks, brought our own food, wiped down the area around our seats. I used the bathroom in the airport, and washed my hands after. We took connecting flights out and back, plus Ubers on each side, and are all fine. Flights themselves were at least 80% full and there were numerous people not wearing masks in the airport. One AA gate attendant had a mask on, but below her nose, which I thought was completely ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]

It was very obvious. She confronted a woman sitting on a bench because it was "her" neighborhood and she didn't feel like she belonged there. Whether or not she was smoking a cigarette or weed or vaping is irrelevant as people do it all over the city. I see white hipsters smoking all over and I've never seen one questioned as to whether they "belong" in a neighborhood. She then claimed her and her children were being threatened when it is very obvious that she was not remotely feeling physically threatened. She wasn't even paying attention to her kids. Her behavior was bullying and abhorrent. [ Reply | More ]

See, in legal terms "may or may not have been smoking pot" would be a very important fact to prove together with another info on whether smoking was allowed in that specific location. The article made it sound like pot smoking was involved and that's why it's difficult to make this into a clear cut case for racism. People do get pissed at other people who smoke pot or even cigarettes in public places. If the woman accused was actually smoking and it was illegal to smoke in that specific location, let's just say I wouldn't be the lawyer taking that case, too hard to prove. Where would you look on the east coast? A place where I'd be able to find a job, maybe not as expensive as NYC, safe, inclusive, where possibly I can move around without having to drive all the time... and (even though it's never easy) I may be able to make some friends. Recently divorced and not sure where I could start, it's scary at this age. I just know for a fact I do not want to stay where I am now (because of the mentality, lack of culture, weather and no ties). Thanks for any honest advice. Other places seem too edgy or closed off. The beauty about vrbo/airbnb/homeaway is that you can sample different neighborhoods and cities. You would probably qualify for a number of middle-income Mitchell Lama co-ops and rentals, I would start the minute you have an NYC address. And there are many areas of Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens/Bronx I would consider. If you don't need a full-service doorman building, and you are open to a smaller co-op, 1 br doesn't have to cost the earth. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] So the white female YouTuber that “rehomed” her ChineseSN son apparently just gave him away to a family she liked? Why did I assume she had legally give up custody via a state authority and that he was in a vetted foster care home or in the process of being legally adopted. Apparently nothing was done legally and the local sheriff hasnt been able to locate him to confirm he is okay and no one knows the identity of the family he is supposedly with?? So a child with extreme special needs had been out of her sight and care for weeks w no folllow up? WTH 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Wow. I hope he’s ok, that sounds dangerous. And I wonder if this friend even exists. [ Reply | More ]

OP here. I think the person exists. God I hope so. But I’m shocked that she would assess them herself especially for a high needs child. The situation is terrible. International adoptees can just fall through the cracks [ Reply | More ]

I can’t what is discussed it on social media. Something like that should have stayed private. Perception is reality and who knows what really goes on behind the scenes. Her ‘image/brand’ is shit. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Chicago entered Phase 3 today which means stores can reopen with precautions and restaurants can have outdoor dining. Offices are also allowed to reopen with capacity restrains. Funny...I have no desire to go shopping or out to eat. And I especially don't have any desire to go to the office. 22 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I’m hearing mid to end of June for those who want to go in, but no one is required to return at least until August. [ Reply | More ]

I know, right? Who are these people who are excited to go mill about with strangers? Or who are so desperate for a hair cut? I miss some things but I cannot imagine going out in public, maskless, to just hang out. [ Reply | More ]

But look at all the protests or people at bars. Obviously, others are very comfortable being close to each other. [ Reply | More ]

Same here. I am also in the midwest but a smaller city. A lot of people eating out at restaurants... I have no desire to do so, or even get my hair colored at the salon (even though my roots look crazy) I am so tired of cooking, but thanks but no thanks - staying home as much as possible. But why does it have to be Right Now! Why do you need to be the first ones back, when workers are scared and epidemiologists still don't know what's the riskiest behavior? [ Reply | More ]

I think people who can't be still for 5 minutes are the ones with anxiety. You know what you do when your hair gets too long but there's a pandemic? You buy some banana clips and hair elastics. [ Reply | More ]

I live in an apartment building in nyc--neighbor on one side died from COVID; neighbor on the other side has been in the hospital with it for 3 weeks and we don't know if he will make it. I'm guessing you don't know anyone who has gotten really sick. [ Reply | More ]

I had to go out today. Party City was still curbside only, as was Meatheads. I stopped in Mariano's, and it was nuts, but so many places have been closing early that I think people rush in in the mornings in case there's trouble in the afternoon. [ Reply | More ]
