Would you feel safe flying right now, in the US? If you already went somewhere in the past month or weeks, what precautions did you take, are airlines doing their part? Thanks. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I would only fly right now if I absolutely had to - like seeing a dying relative or something along those lines. I would not fly to take a vacation or even go to a summer home. I would drive if anything. Nothing about the virus has changed but I recognize that we can't stay inside forever. Planning on being careful until there isnt another option. [ Reply | More ]

I think for a two hour trip you will be fine. Planes are not full (no middle row) and everyone has to wear a mask. Don't take your mask off, don't touch your face, don't eat or drink. [ Reply | More ]

NP: Totally stupid question - but is the middle row thing even for people who live together, including parents/kids, or is that spacing literal/specific, for the benefit of people in front of/behind the rows? [ Reply | More ]

op- but I heard that at security they make you remove the mask... sounds stressful that you have to bring more than one mask w you. Also, when you put your bags on belt, at security, do they now disinfect bins etc? I was OCD clean before this when traveling, so now even more so. But running out of wipes :) [ Reply | More ]

Why would you have to bring more than one mask? Can't you just put it around your chin? [ Reply | More ]

op- I read that you are not supposed to do this... apparently the mask would no be safe anymore. [ Reply | More ]

I mean - you're already in an airport, it's not like you're performing surgery or anything. The purpose of masks is to prevent droplets leaving your nose and mouth from going into someone else's nose and mouth. [ Reply | More ]

Same. And would also be more comfortable in a hotel for one night than on a plane if the distance wasn't doable in a day. [ Reply | More ]

flew from PBI to LGA in early May, and will fly from LGA to DEN in early July. Wear masks, social distance at airports, avoid bathrooms and any surfaces at airports, pack own food (and get only bottled water on plane), wipe down all plane surfaces upon entry, take earliest flights and fewest connections possible. op- posted a reply above, what worries me is that A) so hard to not go to bathroom (especially if I drink) I always try to avoid bathroom on plane but may need to go before boarding and this seems an issue now. B) can't find any more wipes, and even before Covid I would sanitize all surfaces on plane (w dh making fun of me) now that I really want to even more, not sure how if I'm out of wipes. Thanks for your feedback. Did you have to take mask off and then on again? This is also an issue - I guess security check will make ppl remove their mask? [ Reply | More ]

you lift your mask for 3 seconds when you check in with your ID at security, then you put it back down. you go to the bathroom as soon as you get on the plane (that is when it is the cleanest) and you bring purell (make your own if you can't find it to buy) and use it before and after the bathroom visit. don't drink anything if it makes you pee more... it's only a short time. use your purell on a clean tissue to wipe down things on the plane. Our family had to take a 4 hour flight in mid-May. Not many people on the plane (and no, they put families together in a row of three) if you want space you could buy tickets separately. We wore masks wiped stuff down. Sprayed bags with disinfectant on arriving and wore dickies jumpsuits over very light clothes. took them off. We seem to be ok. But I'm not super careful about this. Respectfully careful, but not super careful. I never wipe the groceries packages for example. [ Reply | More ]

op- thanks for your feedback. What are dickies suits? I was actually thinking of wearing one of those disposable suits nurses wear, but not sure I'd look ridiculous... also could not find any for sale. [ Reply | More ]

We wore these: https://www.amazon.com/Dickies-Cotton-Coverall-2X-Regular/dp/B00B6EB4GS/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=dickies+coveralls&qid=1591217016&sr=8-5 (my kid had another brand in the smallest men's size. I wanted breathable cotton) [ Reply | More ]

op- Thanks! These look great. Is it only men sizes? What size did you get for yourself? I am 5 4 and average build, guessing if it is a bit loose should still be Ok. [ Reply | More ]

I got my daughter this one in a size 36. It is a little heavier than the Dickies though. I think she really needed a size 34. She is 5'3" and slim. But I put it a hot wash and dryer and it was ok. Hers was a jaunty red and it was pretty cute. https://www.amazon.com/Red-Kap-Zip-Front-Cotton-Coverall/dp/B005DDYVL8/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=red+kap+cotton+overall&qid=1591219744&s=apparel&sr=1-1 [ Reply | More ]

It also had an extra button that closed off the neck. And all the pockets on both brands were super handy for traveling. [ Reply | More ]

I am telling you. There will be people on your plain in hazmats (or at least there were on ours with visors and those gas mask looking masks. You won't look crazy. We thought it was kind of fun. But also my sister was picking us up and we wanted to reduce the risk of contaminating her car. Who knows if it helped but it's exactly 15 days later and we are all fine. [ Reply | More ]

We flew as a family of 3 last month and took normal precautions. I could not imagine us all wearing jumpsuits over our clothing. We wore masks, brought our own food, wiped down the area around our seats. I used the bathroom in the airport, and washed my hands after. We took connecting flights out and back, plus Ubers on each side, and are all fine. Flights themselves were at least 80% full and there were numerous people not wearing masks in the airport. One AA gate attendant had a mask on, but below her nose, which I thought was completely ridiculous. [ Reply | More ]
