I feel like Svitlana Flom needs to be raked across the coals more. She didn't get as much media attention as Amy Cooper because of the shift in protest coverage. It was very obvious. She confronted a woman sitting on a bench because it was "her" neighborhood and she didn't feel like she belonged there. Whether or not she was smoking a cigarette or weed or vaping is irrelevant as people do it all over the city. I see white hipsters smoking all over and I've never seen one questioned as to whether they "belong" in a neighborhood. She then claimed her and her children were being threatened when it is very obvious that she was not remotely feeling physically threatened. She wasn't even paying attention to her kids. See, in legal terms "may or may not have been smoking pot" would be a very important fact to prove together with another info on whether smoking was allowed in that specific location. Some buildings only allow smoking in specifically designated locations. Anyone smoking outside of these locations is a fair game for security personnel. [ Reply | More

The article made it sound like pot smoking was involved and that's why it's difficult to make this into a clear cut case for racism. People do get pissed at other people who smoke pot or even cigarettes in public places. If the woman accused was actually smoking and it was illegal to smoke in that specific location, let's just say I wouldn't be the lawyer taking that case, too hard to prove.
