[ - ] DH and I are splitting up. He finally told his parents, whom I have a good relationship with, and apparently my MIL asked is if I would be giving back the jewelry she gave me over the years. We've been married for 15 years with 3 kids, so it's not a short relationship. I'm okay with giving it back, but isn't that a bit awkward? Have you heard of this? 32 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

The thought process is MIL is a bitch who has not yet grasped the severity of what is happening to her son's family. Since her "investment" in you did not pan out she wants her cash back. Adjust your expectations. [ Reply | More ]

That's super strange and upsetting. Some people act very weird about divorce, maybe in her eyes it's unacceptable.....that's too bad. My MIL told me that when she filed to divorce my DH's father, her former MIL never spoke to her again - and she had known her since she was a child, it really hurt at the time. [ - ] I’m livid. I just found out my 17 dd gave my proposal wedding ring to her girlfriend. She asked for The ring months ago and I told her she could have it if she kept it safe and didn’t lose it. I see a text from her girlfriend today with a pic of the ring on saying thank you. I’m so mad. I asked for it back and she’s on her way home with it. I don’t even know where to begin with punishment. Why would you give your engagement ring, that you say meant so much to you, to a child? I'm guessing you upgraded from the "tiny diamond" to another ring (is this why you call it your "proposal wedding ring" - I've never heard that before). Maybe she assumed that since it didn't have much monetary value to you, and that you have another engagement ring, that it wasn't as important to you as it is. Also, 17 year old girls tend to be overly dramatic about the value of their friendships with their girlfriends, especially when they're graduating, going off to college, etc. I don't think a punishment is necessary, just an explanation. I'd probe a bit about her friendship. Is it possible that she might be emotionally bullied by this person (so gave an inappropriate gift to smooth over a misunderstanding or something), or just truly being generous with someone she cares about? Bringing this up because I had a friendship like that in high school that I didn't realize at the time was super toxic. Of course, she could just be super sweet/overly generous, which is the complete opposite. But worth exploring. [ Reply | More ]

I have two of them - a morkie and some kind of a shih tzu/poodle/??/mix. They were both actually rescues, believe it or not. I got the morkie a few months before I met DH. I was looking to buy a cavapoo, but the logistics of getting a dog from some farm in Iowa were stressing me out. I didn't have a strong preference for breed other than it had to be small and not need a ton of space to run outdoors, so I decided to check Petfinder and found my little guy there. He was 1.5 years old, which was perfect- I got to skip all the sleepless nights and the housetraining, but he was still a young, energetic dog. The other dog was a complete whim. I follow the NYACC list of dogs that are scheduled to be put down the following day. Usually I can't do anything (lots of pit bulls), but I saw this little, white fluffy thing and I could not sleep knowing she was going to be put down just because she had a "mammary tumor" and "wasn't adjusting well to shelter life", so I stayed up all night trying to find a rescue org that would pull her for me. I was initially just going to foster her, but we clicked and I could not give her away, so I ended up adopting her. There are no other dogs I would rather have than the 2 that I have. LOL on tuition cost. Our shih tzu not so lovable, but does not shed (love that), rarely barks, never has had an accident in house, and also does not need to be walked much. or: yes, I'm a first-time dog owner! Our is a rescue which we adopted at about age two. For me that age was perfect- young but not puppy. I just couldn't handle the puppy stage with the biting of shoes and potty training. She is wired to follow instructions and cooperate. Very focused on positive feedback and because they are/she is so super smart she observes our facial expressions to read when we're pleased or displeased with her behavior. Again: I absolutely adore her. The one downside as the other posted said: she sheds. [ Reply | More ]

Cockapoo. He is a total love. Wanted a hypoallergenic dog with enough energy to go on hikes and play a lot, but not too big to rule the roost. He's 27 pounds. We all adore him. [ Reply | More ]

I have an English Bulldog. He is seriously the best dog. He's so sweet and just loves to chill all day. He does shed though. I would love another one but they are so $$$. We also just adopted a lab mix from a rescue. She is the sweetest dog ever but she sheds a lot. [ Reply | More ]

I like larger breeds who look elegant and don't shed like crazy and don't become overweight like labs for example, so we have a vizsla. I love all pointers, spaniels, setters, collies, shepherds (they shed though), and standard poodles. I generally don't like dogs with squished faces like bulldogs, pugs and boxers or the really small breeds. [ Reply | More ]

Corgi. 4 yo. Ex bf’s fam bred them so I spent a lot of time with them on holidays etc in college. We absolutely love him. Smart as a whip, hilarious, tons of personality/attitude, yet very sweet and extremely affectionate. However! They are stubborn little dogs and can get away with murder if you let them. Just have to be on it, training initially. Also he sheds a SHIT ton — but we deal. [ Reply | More ]

One thing to consider is that the dog's personality matters a TON. It's important to spend some time with the dog in SOME way before adopting. [ Reply | More ]

Had a SHi Tzu that passed two year ago - great dog and FAV breed, but got a Havenese a year ago because I have a 10 yr old and they are sturdier dogs, not as delicate as Shi Tzus and they have more consistent personalities. My DD is rough and my SHi Tzu was afraid sometimes of children. Love our Havenese - great with kids and not shedding. [ Reply | More ]

Havanese. Love her to pieces. She’s a little person in a fur coat. Doesn’t shed, low exercise, absolutely adorable and the best thing our family ever did. Can’t imagine our lives without her. [ Reply | More ]

Shih Tzu. Mellow, friendly lion, needs daily nose exercise. But should not be left alone for long periods-they are too sociable and need company either with another pet or homins. Puppy cut grooming (every 4 weeks desired, 6wk affordable) will dwarf your own personal hair care. Long hair lion grooming is just too hot for the Shih Tzu [ Reply | More ]

Vizsla mutt. She's a wonderful family dog. She is loyal and protective of her family and would do anything for my kids. Her coat is low maintenance with very little shedding, she loves to go on long walks, hikes, and even runs with me, but she doesn't require a ton of exercise every day. We lucked out through a rescue organization - I just got a good feeling about her :) [ Reply | More ]

np: Delta and several other airlines are blocking the middle seats, so unless you are flying with others and fill the seat as a part of the group it will not be occupied. Outside of that some flights are pretty full as the number of flights has been cut drastically and people have begun traveling again. [ Reply | More ]

I did a month or do ago. It was a ghost town, all the shops and restaurants closed. About 20-30 people on each flight. No issue with spacing. Although I’ve read the volume has picked up recently so it may not be as deserted as before. JetBlue and Delta are blocking middle seats. [ Reply | More ]
