I bought my 14 year old son some off of fanatics.com. It's a sports apparel website. They have masks with any sports team on them. I was surprised by how nice the quality was. I did buy an adult size. You can check to see if they sell kids sizes. However, it seem like everyone is selling them now. Some are one, two or three ply cotton. It sounds like the thinner the better for your son. [ Reply | More ]

Very close to this, 2 new beds, sofa, dressers, bookshelves. It was all worn, broken or just too heavy. But it was a cross-country move and we had to pay part of the cost so better to put that money into nicer stuff. Some of our “new” furniture was vintage. [ Reply | More ]

I think the point is will you save money if there is less stuff to move? If you sell your stuff, do you still need the movers? It can be a massive cost savings. If you still need the movers and there is excess capacity in the truck it isn't as heplful. [ Reply | More ]

I got rid of nearly everything via a large Craigslist sale after I graduated from business school, moving to NYC. I didn't want to pay to move a lot of this stuff and used the proceeds to purchase new items. Did the same thing when moving between apartments in NYC although it was less severe. Either way moving is a great time to clean house. If you don't use it, get rid of it. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Is there any MD or PT mom who could give me some advice? Pretty bad back pain (mid/ upper back) I am 50, have not been doing anything crazy (walk every day) but the night before last started to feel discomfort as I was sleeping, then slight backache yesterday and then last night I slept very little as even just lying bothers me... it is sore and when I touch the area it seems that the skin is delicate to the touch as well. My dh has no patience, he says "it's just a pinched nerve and you don't stretch enough" but I do stretch every morning... I took Advil but it didn't help. What could I do? At this time I really wish I could avoid going to the doctor... Does anyone at least know what could cause this kind of pain? Not sure if it's a coincidence but at times these past 2 days my upper ribs feel slightly sore as well. Thanks 16 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I had a similar issue a few weeks ago. Came on suddenly, lasted a week then left. It was a broad pain across my upper back. Another time he was lecturing me about one of the terms but I’m actually the expert and that’s why I get paid to screen these offers. I can’t tell if he’s that clueless or just a dick. ITA. Adjusting to being in a normal office setting will/would be much more difficult for me than adjusting to WFH was. I do still get dressed and put on makeup every day, but the thought of standing outside in the freezing cold/awful humidity, debating if I should get on the M1 local or wait for the express, then packing into a crowded bus trying to answer my early emails while clutching onto a pole... no thanks. I was just thinking about this, because I’ve stopped heat styling my hair and finally realized the key to my best hair is to shower in the am and put my hair into twists, and then comb it out for my afternoon Zooms. I thought to myself “No way am I ever commuting in wet twists, better not get too attached to this”. I know that’s a very weird thing to be caught up on, but that’s when it really hit me that I do not want to go back to the office. [ Reply | More ]

How old are you? What you went through 30+ years ago is very different from what the landscape looks like now. In the western world, teen pregnancies have plummeted, single motherhood is more socially acceptable, there is better genetic testing, so people are more likely to abort fetuses with genetic diseases. In the eastern world, China ended it's one child policy, so people are less likely to give up their healthy daughters. These are all great things, but the downside is that it does mean fewer children are available for adoption. I would go so far as to say, in this day and age, if you want to adopt a child and have a serious chance of getting one, you MUST be open to special needs, older children, etc. The days of getting some pretty, blonde teen cheerleader's prom baby are gone. I am trying not to judge because I realize there's a lot I don't know. That said, they should NOT have actively sought to adopt a child with "any type of disability" if they were not up to it. I understand that with other children in the home it's particularly difficult but they really should have thought it through and realized that those other kids may detract from their ability to effectively parent a special needs child. Also, it is pretty rich that they are withholding details to respect his privacy when for years they have plastered him and all of their other kids all over YouTube for money and/or their own vanity. I'm glad he's finally getting some privacy but they dragged him into the limelight in the first place. I can imagine that he may legitimately be better off with another family but they are far from blameless. [ Reply | More ]

Depends. If you or DH have to work in the city, the Main Line is the best way to go. If you don’t, you can go further out into Chester/Montgomery/Bucks Counties and get a lot more space for the money, but less “prestige”, if you’re into that. Delaware County is largely very working class. Private schools are cheaper than in NYC and a lot easier to get into (I took the tests/applied to maybe 5? And got into every single one), so if you’re unsure about your public option, that’s always a safe way to go. [ Reply | More ]

I am partial to the Bala Cynwyd and Merion Station parts of Lower Merion, especially if you need to live close to the city. 20 minute commute to Center City/University City (Penn and CHOP). You can get a great older house with character for $700,000 to $1.2 million. Public schools are wonderful (people really like the Cynwyd and Merion Elementary Schools that serve these areas). Neighbors are generally well-educated, professional, UWS-types. Very Jewish feel, if that's your thing, but not overwhelmingly so (maybe 50% Jewish?). The further away from City Ave. you live, the less "urban" and more "suburban" it feels. (We live in the Cynwyd part of Bala-Cynwyd.) We left the UWS 7 years ago and LOVE it here -- there are a lot of former New Yorkers here. Wynnewood and Penn Valley are great, too, just slightly further away from the city and slightly more expensive. [ Reply | More ]

Bala-Cynwyd and Merion are basically the same town, as long as you ignore the couple of streets in Merion Station where a few old mansions are. They abut one another. 19004 (Bala-Cynwyd) and 19066 (Merion Station) just lie on opposite sides of a street (Old Lancaster Road / Manayunk Road): BC to the north; Merion Station to the south. Especially around that line, the neighborhoods are largely indistinguishable. [ Reply | More ]

There are group homes for foster children where they post wish lists for things like bicycles, helmets, swimwear, swim toys, etc. and I love buying things off of those registries. You may also be able to volunteer to help out remotely, e.g., to give career counseling to these foster children via Zoom.
