I'm sort of hitting the point where I can't imagine going back to the office - getting dressed up, commuting on the subway, getting home after dark. It sounds bizarre! [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I have to go back next week (not NYC, don't take subway). I'm excited, its not a big high rise building so we don't have a lot of the same concerns as big city offices, I get to dress up and brush my hair and do my work without kids/dog/DH bothering me [ Reply | More

ITA. Adjusting to being in a normal office setting will/would be much more difficult for me than adjusting to WFH was. I do still get dressed and put on makeup every day, but the thought of standing outside in the freezing cold/awful humidity, debating if I should get on the M1 local or wait for the express, then packing into a crowded bus trying to answer my early emails while clutching onto a pole... no thanks. I was just thinking about this, because I’ve stopped heat styling my hair and finally realized the key to my best hair is to shower in the am and put my hair into twists, and then comb it out for my afternoon Zooms. I thought to myself “No way am I ever commuting in wet twists, better not get too attached to this”. It never felt natural going to the office every day. I convinced myself it was fine, but it wasn’t. I remember how sad I felt each time my maternity leave ended—how I had to push through that feeling. I have pictures of DC on my desk at work to remind me why I had to show up every day. It almost felt like I was only there under the threat of violence. Show up or your family starves and sleeps on the street. Sorry… this whole thing has me questioning the nature of my existence.
