Do you get the class moms something at the end of the year? If yes, will you this year? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

I've been the class mom several times and have had a handful of parents who have given me small gifts (such as $20 SB gift cards). They were sweet and unexpected gestures, but I would much, much rather the gift go to someone you may not think of (school nurse, counselor, librarian, custodian, etc). Very sweet to ask about though! [ Reply | More ]

+1 to this: custodians/facilities/maintenance, security, crossing guards - all of the people who are essential yet sometimes overlooked. [ Reply | More ]

At my private they do nothing except forward emails - no effort whatsoever. So never a gift for them. I have friends in public who are class moms and they’ve never gotten gifts from other parents - I would say (and they would agree) that the money is better spent on the underpaid teachers and aides [ Reply | More ]

We did. In one of DC's class another mom coordinated it and in the other DC's class no one had coordinated it by last day, so I did. I said it was totally optional to participate, about one-third of parents contributed. We got a restaurant gift card and flowers for her. [ Reply | More ]

5 years as a class mom and I've never been given a gift. I was balled out by a dad once because the teachers asked that a party not have treats (allergies) - he should have given me a gift. [ Reply | More ]

+1 I have only gotten thanks from one parent and I find it so bizarre. Oh well. [ Reply | More ]

I was the class mom many, many times. I was never given a gift - It would have been a little embarrassing. No one ever said thank you, either, other than the teacher. [ Reply | More ]

Don't be silly. Other people may see this and then they'll feel obligated in the future to get something for someone they don't really care about. [ Reply | More ]

A couple of years I remember the class buying flowers for the class parents and presenting them on the last family day (same day the end of year teacher gift is given) but never an actual gift or anything. [ Reply | More ]
