I’m working with a client on a project and they’re paying me to guide them in picking a partner. We received three similar offers but one of the three was delivered by someone who was really rude and demeaning to me and then to my client. I’ve got to call him tomorrow to let him know that they’re not going to proceed with him. Should I tell him the truth or just say that the other offer was better value. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Given that this person is rude and demeaning, for a host of reasons I would keep it very short. "Thank you but we are going with another offer." [ Reply | More ]

Yes I was just wondering if he realizes how rude he is, or maybe he doesn’t care. For example as I was soliciting proposals and verifying some of the details I asked him some questions and he told me that my question was ‘not appropriate’! Another time he was lecturing me about one of the terms but I’m actually the expert and that’s why I get paid to screen these offers. I can’t tell if he’s that clueless or just a dick. He also told me something about his experience that one of his colleagues (inadvertently) contradicted on another call. [ Reply | More ]

Keep it quiet. Always good to have more information than them. You never know when it will be useful. [ Reply | More ]

The guy sounds like an a-hole. Don't waste your time giving him feedback. I agree with the PP, keep it short. [ Reply | More ]

This! Plus, you never know if you will have to work with them, and then that will be very awkward. But in my experience, people never ever see how rude they are. [ Reply | More ]

Tell him his proposal was outstanding but you are still turning it and him down. If he dares to ask why say that question is not appropriate. Then reference the lie he told to let him know what a failure he is. [ Reply | More ]

Do NOT do this. Huge mistake to burn a bridge here when he could know someone down the line who could hire you. It's not your responsibility to give him constructive criticism. Give him a BS/vague answer and move the F on. [ Reply | More ]
