[ - ] Anyone ever do pale pink or a rosewood in the bedroom? Currently have lavender/lilac which I am sort of tired of, or maybe I need to lighten it up a few shades. Those who have color in the bedroom, what do you have? Any specific paint color recs from decorator moms? I don’t think I want white or gray, the rest of the apartment is gray. I know this is maybe going out (gray) but it is still all over furniture sites etc so I am not focused on living area right now. 21 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I think of rosewood as a pretty dark pink. I don't think I would do pink in a bedroom because it would feel like I had to think about what other colors were in there. I get not wanting gray or white, but would still want something more neutral. [ Reply | More ]

I currently have lilac. I like color. The pinks I am looking at are not nearly as obvious as lilac and one it said you wouldn’t even notice it was pink it just gives the room a glow. I ammloling for neautrals but that have a color. Yes rosewood is dark probably not up for that. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] HR or other professional moms, post interview advice please: I am a bit rusty at this, so need input. I had an interview yesterday, for a great opportunity. One person from hr facilitated the interview process (she scheduled phone interview which was yesterday - and I thanked her on my confirmation email) I had the interview yesterday morning with an HR director, but do not have her email address... wanted to say thank you - how do I find out where to send? Not sure if it's appropriate to call the company and ask. Thank you. Also, in thanking a person who shared my CV initially, should I say "had a great interview" even if not sure of interview outcomes? Lastly, some wording for the thank you email to the interviewer - do not want it to sound cheesy but would like to reiterate my interest in the position. Thank you everyone! 6 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Call the company and ask for the HR director's email. They get these calls a lot, and it's fine. I would follow up with the person who shared your CV, just as you said--a brief, "had a great interview, much appreciated your help in facilitating this" or something along those lines. Short thank you for taking the time to meet you, what a pleasure it was to meet them, and what a great company etc...you can't wait to hear back from them at their earliest convenience. op- yes, makes sense. BTW I replied with my availability and also asked for the interviewer's email to send a quick thank you note. [ Reply | More ]

I'm in HR, fwiw. We'd never waste time "going over the interview" if we didn't think there was a fit. However, not immediately moving to another round of interviews means there's something that they want to discuss. It could be anything and don't make yourself crazy guessing. Some examples is maybe they have concerns about compensation if that wasn't fleshed out. Maybe they realized that this in fact isn't the right role for you but have another one they want to run by you. Actually, maybe .... if the person referring you was senior/important/etc. ... maybe they'd give you the courtesy of letting you go gently over the phone. But I think of all the possibilities this is least likely. As for what to say on the call - it will certainly depend on what the purpose of the call is but feel free to use it as an opportunity to share that you've enjoyed the process so far and look forward to next steps - or whatever. Actually if kids have to go to zoned schools again (as I did in 1970's NYC), you'll find yourselves with your neighborhood kids. so, the first thing is..kids are universally similar despite what SES they are from. It's the parent bodies that different a lot. So, in the burbs (I wasn't in a $ burb) the parents worked, of course many are very involved in the schools others are not etc (similar to NYC) but I would say much less "get my kid a tutor" attitudes for sure and burb parents let the school drive the process. And the burb school was very much more the traditional American HS experience. Sports teams, homecoming, great arts programs, plenty of money for extras in the school, music etc. A lot more classes (AP/IB/Electives, alternate programs) to choose from but a function of a lot more money. But very much SES "banding" so depending of what SD you are in, it's a more narrow band of HHI, I would say most kids have a range, ie Cold Spring Harbor has one range and Islip has another and it's not that common to have a family who makes 1mm at a school with families who make 40K) THAT is happening at my youngest NYC school. I like the teacher in NYC bc they are younger and hungier, but there is turnover. Not so much turnover in burbs. [ Reply | More ]

op-yes, they both graduated from public HS. They are in top 3 colleges. Part of the reason why we moved back was frankly twofold, firstly bc my son got into a great school and secondly bc I felt like it would have been hard to follow his sisters who were the ultimate overachievers. He got a taste of that bc the school they were in was 7-12, and when he got there everyone was like "are you as smart as your sisters" and he is smart, and had a high average, but certainly not as focused and a very different kid. don't listen to all these freaks. DC just started working in admissions in a top LAC (where he graduated) says 7 all told is just fine (preferably with 5s!). Do not listen to these freaks whose kids have 15. DC says admissions people want strong students who have taken lots of tough classes, but they get kind of skeeved at the profusion of kids who are too grindy (his pet peeve: kids who get 1560 SAT and insist on taking it again. He NEVER recommends those kids). He likes kids who find a way to take college classes, especially weird, challenging ones. And he loves when those profs send a "This kids blew away my freshman." Some schools will prefer the kid who has taken over 10, but it depends on if they really have taken advantage of their curriculum or not. It's different if you take 7 on your own when your school doesn't offer any when your school has every AP subject and you've only taken 7 and want to go to an Ivy. [ Reply | More ]

Unfortunately these days many students have high scores and tests because of inflation (SAT I is much easier to get a 1500 now than it was 20 years ago). Schools are looking for a hook - do they have a special talent, are they an athlete, do they have a perspective or background that many other students don't have? There are thousands of students who graduate high school every year, and more of the world is applying to US colleges, and the first year class size of most Ivies has not expanded at all. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 09.06.19, 03:08 PM Flag

That is exactly what happened with dd. The number of APs doesn't matter all that much as long as it is above a certain threshold for the school to indicate a rigorous course-load. If you have the stats and don't have a hook, it is like a lottery. Sure, your odds are increased say from 5-10% to maybe 20-40% depending on the school, but they are still less than half (at least this is what I glean from prepscholar). I saw on some other UB post that the avg SAT score for Stuy is now 1496. With 850 kids per grade, this means that probably around 400 have scores > the ivy min of about 1530, yet maybe 125 go to ivy+MS and Cornell gets many of them. the rest of those kids do great, but are at UChicago, UMich, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, etc. [ Reply | More ]

If you look at the 25/75 for Cornell admissions it was 1490/1570. This is evidenced in the fact that 25% of the kids scored worse than 1390. 25%. [ Reply | More ]

General Topics 09.06.19, 05:15 PM Flag

Why’s that? It is a pretty close way to do it. You guys keep telling yourself you need a 1570 to get in an Ivy. You can look at the SAT ranges for accepted students for most of these schools and also the yields and you know there are tons of of kids there with SATs below 1500. And cornell is a big school 25% are not athletes. And to assume URMs all make up the low scores is really stupid. [ Reply | More ]

Are you actually familiar with the process? Cornell has some SUNY schools. A large number of the spots go to hooked applicants. The ones left got to high scoring applicants.
