Has anyone on UB been to Islay, Jura or Mull in Scotland? DH is hell-bent on visiting Islay on our trip next month, but not sure there is so much to see and do outside of visiting whisky distilleries. I'm on board with that as long as at some point I can go out on a bog and cut peat. ;) I don't know if we have enough time to go to Mull (another long drive and ferry ride), but might figure out how to do that if there's enough to see. There is nothing to see. That is what makes it so beautiful. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Well, yeah, but.... We have been to Scotland many times (DH is from the North of England on the border with Scotland). We love the scenery in Scotland. Islay looks pretty austere. There is only so much austerity one can see with limited vacation time. ;) I love me a whisky distillery (I have lost count of how many we have toured all over Scotland), but I would like to see and do some other activities as well. Tell him. Then roughly sketch out a vacation plan that gives each of you some of what you want. Maybe even take a few days apart from each other - he can go to Mull while you do something you have always wanted to do. [ Reply | More ]

I went to Mull last year, the train trip from Glasgow was gorgeous, and the ferry was lovely. I like the scenery, and the history. [ Reply | More ]

HM - Jura is where Orwell wrote 1984 and I believe it's a museum now. [ Reply | More ]
