Asian Americans were also directly oppressed by the US government - Asians could not become naturalized citizens until 1952 with the McCarren-Walter Act. There are a host of other instances as well. That is, if you assume Olsat/bsra is a good IQ test. Anyway, if there were only 250 kids with 99th percentile, it's way fewer than predicted. 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

So if 11,000 4 yos were tested adn around 450 scored 99 (whatever that 99 means), that means around 4% of the children tested scored in the top 1% of a projected norm. Whacky whacky. And no one is calling the DOE on their math or their thinking. Because all the mc and umc moms are too busy trying to get in THROUGH the system to question the system. With the SB, if your kid got a 99, it meant he or she had scored in the top 1% of all the kids in teh country taking the test in his or her particular age group. No one knows wht the numbers mean in the DOE system. [ Reply | More ]

interesting question. i used to believe it was because private school parents with money feel entitled (money) and high-scoring public school parents feel entitled (superior genes) now i think it's because just about everyone feels more comfortable being invested in their kids' brains, achievements, beauty, luck, success etc. than they do in their own. kids are the arena where all of us -- but especially women -- can be more blatantly competitive.
