I have used two great agencies- one is called Abby Nanny. You can reach the owner at CZDLutz@yahoo.com and the other agency I used was Pavillion. Both agencies do a great job. Pavillion is expensive but, they did find me a stellar nanny and she stayed with us for 6 years. My current nanny / housekeeper I found through Abby Nanny which is less priecy, CZDLutz@yahoo.com, and we love her ! You can also try gonannies.com but, I didn't get good matches through them. However, my friend found a great nanny on gonannies. [ Reply | More ]

we (myself, DH and two boys - then 2 and 5) vacationed with a close friend of min, her DH and her 4 and 6 yr old boys and it was terrific! we don't live near eachother but we see eachother enough that the kids were all confortable with eachother and all the parents; we had a big enough beach house, and we are all pretty laid back on vacation. we developed a loose schedule (boys playing outisde all morning, kids all eating lunch together, bigger kids playing games inside or TV, while youngest napped, more outdoor play, kids eating together while grownups cooked more elaborate meals). I have to say best vacation we ever had with the kids. We are all pretty laid back on avacaton and while the kids just hung out and played togteher mnost of the time the families did take some eperate day trips and the DH needed their alone time to grocery shop or play golf one one day. I even had time to read because there was always an extra grownup around! [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] This weekend we received a copy of dc's transcript for the year from school (a K-12 private school my dc is leaving next term, as he has been admitted somewhere else for 9th grade). This past yr dc went through the admissions process for 9th (public and private). SHOCKED to see a "D" as a first term grade on the transcript, a clerical error (narrative report card sent in November directly to us had only very high grades). There was a second, more obvious clerical error (another grade was reported as "G" which was not one of the options). I am thinking through all the interviews we had in November and December, and imagining the admissions people wondering why we were not trying to do "damage control" relating to this supposed "D" in the first quarter report card. ISEE scores were all 8 and 9 stanines and letters of rec would have been consistent with terrific, hard working, great kid (which he is). Thankfully dc got into a school we love (for HS) but I am still quite shocked that this happened. I am so grateful to the school that admitted him for overlooking this bad grade (which was wrong) and admitting him anyway. Parents, MAKE SURE there are no clerical or other errors on your child's record when applying to schools or college. What really annoys me is I asked for a copy of the transcript but was refused it and told "wait for the report card, it has all the same information, plus the narrative descriptions of performance" (and incidentally the narrative part was not included in the transcript sent to the schools). Ouch. 28 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

a k-8 school probably would have noticed though bc they actively seek to assist students in the hs placement process. Someone would have had a file for that student and would have been on top of all of it, and would likely have noticed something wrong on the transcript. In a K-12 there is no "process" for applying out, and certainly nobody has a responsibility to help or oversee the process for any child. Mistakes happen everywhere, but in a K-8 my guess is the problem would have been discovered. None of it is deliberate in any case. [ Reply | More ]

we asked but the person in charge said we needed to just wait for the report card, said the transcript "has to be signed" etc. etc. and it is a big job for her. Report cards were being issued within days anyway. I am sorry I did not ask to see a copy of what was sent to the schools but never would have guessed there could have been an error. Dh says "forget about it" and he is right. The only important thing is the outcome, which was terrific (dc admitted to a great school). Anyone can make a mistake, and we are lucky the outcome was good. Come to think of it, this is the first year they have sent out a "transcript" to parents at the end of the year. Previous years I only saw the quarterly narrative reports which had grades included. We were not even expecting the transcript in the mail. We might never have discovered the error at all (not that it really matters now, anyway). [ Reply | More ]
