I live 2 blocks from PS 6. Is there a good reason to test ds for Lower Lab, Or is PS 6 just as good, and should I opt for convenience? What are the real differences between the two schools? Do they teach art/music in both? Is math different in two schools? Lost here, any advice is appreciated. TIA [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Tour both schools and decide for yourself. [ Reply | More ]

Try for LL. Move there if dc gets accepted. No reason to move if dc can't get accepted. PS6 can be back up if you like LL more. [ Reply | More ]

no need to move if accepted to LL, it's not that far from 6, and there is a cheese bus if wanted. [ Reply | More ]

i only have stories about ps6, but i live in the area as well and have been paying attention. two friends families mentioned that by grade 3, the class size and the nyc bureaucracy got so bad, they pulled their kids out. they both said in K and 1, it was fine, their kid thrived, but as the years went on it got worse. i tell you this so you can be sure to talk w/ parents of older children at both places as you do your research. gl. 6 is large (5 classes per grade?) and traditional (teachers called Mr or Mrs). LL is 2 classes per grade, more progressive. Why not test and keep options open as you see how DC develops? [ Reply | More ]
