We did two things...(1) we had two nannies for the early years, and only changed to one after both kids were in school full time, and (2) we staggered our hours so one of us went to work early and came home early and the other went to work late and came home late (to maximize time with the children). There is nothing to suggest that the mmr has anything to do with autism though, more likely that they began exhibiting signs shortly after they got the shot because that is the timeframe that kids start having signs of autism. It seems to me that if there really was a connection there would be some science to back it up, and some of these court cases would have gone through. [ Reply | More ]

it is very common for people to attribute a disease to a specific event that in reality, often comes on very gradually but has not been noticed. I'm an MD that treats adults and I see this all the time with things like Alzheimers - people will say it all began after a cold or a fall, but its really that they just were not aware of the earliest signs. minority means that there are fewer of them than the majority population. hence, minorities make up a smaller proportion of the pool. if there are more kids at a given school relative to their percentage of the total pool, one wonders if there was some sort of balancing for diverity. could be luck of the draw or not. now do YOU get it? I can tell you with absolute certainty that the lottery for Anderson was ENTIRELY random. It was computer generated by an outside vendor per request by the DOE. Entirely random and that is why the Anderson admin and teaching staff (and maybe PA?) aer being so hostile towards the new families. [ Reply | More ]

I have heard that the PA moms are awful. they get in everyone's business, nose around the office, check up on how different kids are doing, and talk behind closed doors alright. they think the school is theirs, and they only want who they want in the club. I would not send a kid to anderson if my life depended on it. If i were brian Culot, I would put some reigns on the parent body there. he doesn't yet realize (too young and inexperienced) that these people are the ones who can wreck the school, not the incoming families who were not approved by the hens. they need to just thank the stars that their kids are getting a good education, and stop the nonsense. every kid who gets a spot there deserves it as much as the next kid, regardless of whether they were picked by random lottery or some other method. they all performed up to the standard required, and most will do very well.
