Anderson moms - what did you think about orientation? I found the diversity pretty interesting - I find it very hard to believe they randomly picked those kids out of all the 99s. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

yes, I think it is ridiculous that these people would commute to uws. even more ridiculous that they depleted so many of the spots that kids from the nabe and across town could've taken. doe: get them their own k-8 G&T school!!! [ Reply | More ]

well, doe should develop programs in these districts then. a citywide should not be a garbage pail for districts with no schools or resources. means the few with means at these schools will be supporting everything else. [ Reply | More ]

what????? garbage pail???? my dd earned eligibility with her 99 just as did everyone else who had a 99 in the city--- my nyc taxes support ALL nyc schools just as yours do--the fact that a district has no g&t program has little to do with the resources in the district. in district 10, there are no g&ts because of a recent schools superintendent (Irma Zadoya) who didn't believe in gifted programs - and just because i'm not from manhattan doesn't mean i don't have "means"--- you're gross [ Reply | More ]

minority means that there are fewer of them than the majority population. hence, minorities make up a smaller proportion of the pool. if there are more kids at a given school relative to their percentage of the total pool, one wonders if there was some sort of balancing for diverity. could be luck of the draw or not. now do YOU get it? I can tell you with absolute certainty that the lottery for Anderson was ENTIRELY random. It was computer generated by an outside vendor per request by the DOE. OSEPO and DOE didn't even have the names until about the time that we did. Entirely random and that is why the Anderson admin and teaching staff (and maybe PA?) aer being so hostile towards the new families. [ Reply | More ]

I have heard that the PA moms are awful. they get in everyone's business, nose around the office, check up on how different kids are doing, and talk behind closed doors alright. they think the school is theirs, and they only want who they want in the club. I would not send a kid to anderson if my life depended on it. If i were brian Culot, I would put some reigns on the parent body there. he doesn't yet realize (too young and inexperienced) that these people are the ones who can wreck the school, not the incoming families who were not approved by the hens. they need to just thank the stars that their kids are getting a good education, and stop the nonsense. every kid who gets a spot there deserves it as much as the next kid, regardless of whether they were picked by random lottery or some other method. they all performed up to the standard required, and most will do very well.
