ita. we were definitely not anti-vac, but dh and I were uncomfortable with the litany of immunizations that the AAP rec'ed. We found the Sears book to be quite pro vaccine for the most part, but didn't suggest you start so early and give so many [ Reply | More ]

Damn, that's rude. What's the point of posting a damn question on this site if people are going to direct me to a book or another website? [ Reply | More ]

I would rather get important info like this from a respected book than from a bunch of ninnies on an anonymous board, but that's just me! [ Reply | More ]

np: Wow, you're a bitch. It's more complicated than can be explained here. And you should also learn not to trust some stranger on the net over doing real research and figuring out what's best for your baby. So you're also an idiot. [ Reply | More ]

well, i'm not the responder above but i do think you ought to get some educated advice on this issue..... you need to read, and read a LOT before making your decision. [ Reply | More ]

I am the op. My question like many is to ask these types of questions from people who have been there/done that. I'm just curious as to how others have approached this. Calling me a bitch though is pretty extreme. [ Reply | More ]

The basics the book gives is an alternative and selective vaccination schedule (a little to long to post here, sorry). Our ped rolled her eyes, but she went with it. We did dtap, hib and rotavirus. all starting at 6 months. Our db isn't in day care, so we weren't socially irresponsible imo. [ Reply | More ]

you started rotavirus at 6 months?? your doctor let you do that when it's not recommended you take the vaccine later than 6 months? huh? [ Reply | More ]

The preservative thought to be linked to autism hasn't been in the MMR shot since 2002. All you are doing by splitting it up is multiplying the number of shots and preservatives by 3. [ Reply | More ]

np: People talking about it on the news is not the same as any studies actually linking the MMR vax to autism. If you want to split the shots to be conservative - fine. But stop assuming just because it's on the news that it's true (in general for stuff about kids). [ Reply | More ]

its not "all over the news." Its all over the interet - which is hardly the same thing. Goverment conspiracies about alien autopsies are also all over the internet - doesn't mean it comes from a reputable source though. [ Reply | More ]

There's a lot more that's fishy (imo) about the mmr than it's supposed ties to autism. We skipped the mmr all together. And we believe in immunization. I don't want to start a mommy war, and I agree with the poster above, read the Sears book. [ Reply | More ]

Just want a healthy baby, and have seen two of my best friend's deliver healthy children -- only to be led to this MMR shot and suddenly both dc are diagnosed with autism. Both boys. Its just scary and I would die if I felt like I was the one who was responsible for the condition if I could have prevented it. [ Reply | More ]

There is nothing to suggest that the mmr has anything to do with autism though, more likely that they began exhibiting signs shortly after they got the shot because that is the timeframe that kids start having signs of autism. It seems to me that if there really was a connection there would be some science to back it up, and some of these court cases would have gone through. [ Reply | More ]

it is very common for people to attribute a disease to a specific event that in reality, often comes on very gradually but has not been noticed. I'm an MD that treats adults and I see this all the time with things like Alzheimers - people will say it all began after a cold or a fall, but its really that they just were not aware of the earliest signs. np: was this after the first MMR shot, or after the second round at age 5? just wondering b/c we're currently debating whether to break up the MMR round 2 for our dd. is it still something we should worry about if she had MMR together when she was 1 and no problems? [ Reply | More ]

You know, I can, but I shouldn't. and I'm trying to be kind here---but this is something that needs to be researched, really really well by YOU. You should get some perfunctory info off the board, and then, read up, discuss w/ your partner and ask your ped. [ Reply | More ]

Just curious. I'm not the OP, I read the vaccine book, I have no idea what other issues you could have with the mmr. Seems like the risk of getting those diseases is a lot higher than the risks posed by the shot itself. [ Reply | More ]
