[ - ] Last day of preK tomorrow. DD made her teacher some gifts and a card. I was wondering if I should give my own card expressing my gratitude or if I should just say a few nice things in person. Just wondering if a teacher likes to get "fan mail." 2 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Let her stay in it. No rush! My 2nd DD didn't leave her beloved crib until sometime after 3. At that time we got her a new toddler bed, set it up and let her play in it. When she was ready, she slept in it. A few days later we dismantled the crib and put it away. If she wanted it we would have gotten it out, but she never asked. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Do checks "expire" at some point? I'm actually a bit ticked because it's screwing up my bank balance (it's the same amount as our rent check so I'm continually confused about which checks are where). Isn't it unprofessional to hold onto a check for this long? I wrote it April 15, actually, according to my bank book. [ Reply | More ]

in many banks checks expire after 90 days if uncashed. Call your bank on July 16, say it hasn't been cashed. See if you can be sure they 'expire' it instead of putting a stop payment on it (which would indicate that the choice was made by you) [ Reply | More ]

Yes but many (like us) don't bother applying there for middle school in the first place -- odds of getting in are ridiculously tiny since there are so few spots and it is city-wide, application and recommendation forms are time-consuming (even before the test), and many dcs don't want to be one of very few new kids in a program where everyone else has known each other for 6 years. Meanwhile I've had two friends who were not happy with their teachers at 41 (one in K, one in 1st, but this was a few years ago too so maybe they aren't there anymore...and it's just two people's opinions- so still not that valid a point, I admit) [ Reply | More ]

no offense, but it hasn't turned around because people are choosing ps11. the reason the seats are being filled by neighborhood dcs is because they can no longer get variances to ps3 and ps41. parents are sending their dcs there reluctantly. maybe they will donate more than the people who were bussed in, but there certainly isn't a woo-hoo! rah, rah spirit among the parents i know headed for ps11 gen ed. Because, its g&t with small classes and high scorers and the doe states that the curriculum will be advanced in g&t rooms starting next year instead of the same, you will have a better shot at middle schools coming from g&t program, 41 will have large classes next year - 11 small, and if you hate 11 - you can go to 41 next year. However, he has great fine motor skills and talks a lot -- can count to 10, repeats almost any word you say to him, can ask for more milk, etc. PT and ped say he has low tone. We are in PT already for 4 past months. Ped wants ds to be checked out by neurologist which means MRI. I think unnecessary worry and medical intervention is not needed and harmful if there is nothing but slower development happening with ds. [ Reply | More ]

My DD started scooting at 12 mos and started walking 6 weeks later. She never did tummy time. Just saying that your are looking for excuses. I think you should query your pediatrician. What does he think will be found in an MRI that can help your DS? A friend got a diagnosis of mild CP from an MRI, so they changed the goal of her son's PT. It took the pressure off him. What is mild CP? I did quiz ped on what she thought they would find but she was evasive saying it was more to rule any problems out rather than one thing he was sort of tracked for. [ Reply | More ]

mild cerebral palsy. In other words, it wasn't a gross motor muscle problem. It was a brain problem. So his PT was changed to increase the range of motion he could do, rather than go for complete freedom of movement. There are some other issues with CP that they now need to pay attention to. I don't know more about it than that. [ Reply | More ]

My DD didn't walk till 18 months. She was a happy crawler and since I (I've been told) didn't walk till very late, we didn't worry. Did not do PT or anything else. One day she walked, wobbled for a couple of weeks, and then started RUNNING everywhere. Our pediatrician doesn't recommend PT until 18 months and he never pressured us to get tested. If he had, I probably would have...though the fact that I didn't walk until 18 months definitely made us feel better about the whole thing. Laziness runs in our family, apparently. Try not to worry.
