WWYD: Wrote a tuition check to DD's school in April. It still hasn't been cashed. Sent 3 emails to follow up (to make sure they got it) and received one response in mid-May saying "we'll look into it." School is out for summer. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

cancel the check, re-write when they come looking for it [ Reply | More ]

I wouldn't cancel it. It sounds as though the school is not organized. Speak to someone in person. People are usually in the offices after school is closed. E-mail is not an adequate level of communication at this point. [ Reply | More ]

OP: Do checks "expire" at some point? I'm actually a bit ticked because it's screwing up my bank balance (it's the same amount as our rent check so I'm continually confused about which checks are where). Isn't it unprofessional to hold onto a check for this long? I wrote it April 15, actually, according to my bank book. [ Reply | More ]

in many banks checks expire after 90 days if uncashed. Call your bank on July 16, say it hasn't been cashed. See if you can be sure they 'expire' it instead of putting a stop payment on it (which would indicate that the choice was made by you) [ Reply | More ]
