I didn't hear what he said, but IMO the death penalty for a crime where the victim isn't dead is OTT. I know child rape is HORRIBLE, but doesn't rise to the level of a death penalty crime. [ Reply | More

Yea but the death penalty is not going to be my choice, it's going to be left up to a jury, and frankly I'd rather see the bastard locked up in jail for the rest of his life with no hope of appeal or parole, etc. The death penalty is open to appeal. I can see your point, but disagree, and would rather them be gone for good. Have you been inside a Federal Prison, it ain't so bad, especially if there behavior is good for any significant time. Child rape would have been a state crime with a state prison sentence, not a federal crime. A life sentence with no hope of parole AT ALL would be a terrific punishment. Most people go crazy being locked up for that long. [ Reply | More

I don't think there should be the death penalty for any crime -- the system as it is is unfair and makes mistakes, and killing 100 child rapists, murderers or whatever does not justify the killing of even one innocent person. And besides the defendants who just didn't do it, there are the defendants who are more likely to receive the death penalty because they're black or poor or mentally disabled or given a "narcoleptic" lawyer or judge. [ - ] I think I am a bad mom. have a 2.5 yo dd. She is a great kid, but she drives me nuts. The disobeying drives me cray. if she gets a hold of somethimg she shouldn't and I ask her for it she says no and runs around in circles and I end up chasing her. I do 1-2-3 for time outs and that sometimes works. My biggest concern is she likes to wander and explore everything. She has no fear, she'd walk away from our house exploring if i would let her. OR seriously OP - it's normal. My 3.5yo is still doing most of that. Just stay calm and be as consistent as humanly possible. We have found that the 123 thing works pretty well when we do it consistently. What happens though is that we do it for awhile and then she behaves better so we slack off. np - and I could not agree with you more - however, the schools do not adhere to this philosophy - if your child is not social/popular and friends with practically everyone in the classroom - they consider it a problem. It's just another example of pc gone mad. I don't remember the name of the people in my first grade class. I differentiate between friends and classmates. And I let dc sink or swim. When my dd was in K, there was a girl on the school bus in the 2nd grade that often said rude or mean things to my dd. I spoke to the principal of the school who looked into the matter. I also gave my daughter a few "scripted" lines to use. I also stressed that she should not say anything mean back to the girl. Like "you can say anything you want, but I'm not going to listen to you. So, you'll be talking to yourself, etc." Knowing how she would respond in advance really built her confidence. In fact, she told me later that she actually said something different to the girl, but with the same confidence. Soon after this the other girl stopped teasing my dd and they became friends.
