I didn't hear what he said, but IMO the death penalty for a crime where the victim isn't dead is OTT. I know child rape is HORRIBLE, but doesn't rise to the level of a death penalty crime. [ Reply | More

Yea but the death penalty is not going to be my choice, it's going to be left up to a jury, and frankly I'd rather see the bastard locked up in jail for the rest of his life with no hope of appeal or parole, etc. The death penalty is open to appeal. I can see your point, but disagree, and would rather them be gone for good. Have you been inside a Federal Prison, it ain't so bad, especially if there behavior is good for any significant time. A state prison...well that maybe more of a punishment, but then there will probably be a chance of them getting out at some point. [ Reply | More

Child rape would have been a state crime with a state prison sentence, not a federal crime. A life sentence with no hope of parole AT ALL would be a terrific punishment. Most people go crazy being locked up for that long. [ Reply | More

Yes, right, unless he used a firearm or crossed state lines then you could get him on some Federal Statue, but not a death penalty case, I don't know what the charge would be, not a lawyer. But yes, it's good punishment LIFE in prison, but I'd still rather him dead. [ Reply | More

It looks like he's going for the state's rights people... Honestly, can't say I care that much. The guy at the heart of the case raped his 8yo step-daughter, I'm not sure I care more about him living than some of the other people on death row. [ Reply | More

I don't think there should be the death penalty for any crime -- the system as it is is unfair and makes mistakes, and killing 100 child rapists, murderers or whatever does not justify the killing of even one innocent person. And besides the defendants who just didn't do it, there are the defendants who are more likely to receive the death penalty because they're black or poor or mentally disabled or given a "narcoleptic" lawyer or judge.
