[ - ] NYC Walk-up Moms - need a stroller recommendation. Live in a brownstone (1 flight up plus steps to get into building) and will likely take public transport occasionally with baby. Can leave stroller in lobby - but still have to get it up one flight of stairs. Ive seen some recs on this board for the Maclaren Quest but it seems a little flimsy - would love to hear more opinions. Will use snap and go for first 3 mos. Thanks. 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

If you are planing on using the snap and go to start with I would put off getting your main stroller until you have more of an idea of what you will need. I think the Maclarens usually do come highly recommended though. [ Reply | More ]

I have a preemie and have pumped milk for her since day one (I can't breastfeed because I have to add extra calories to the breast milk). After 5 weeks I'm getting pretty tired of pumping but I feel bad about giving it up. My Ped said I should stick with it for a minimum of 6 months. why can't you just bf normally now? You won't have to always pump and add calories, right? when can you transition to regular nursing? She was only 3 lbs when she was born. The peds put her on a high calorie diet to help with her weight gain. They were concerned that the BM wasn't enough to help her along. No, I won't always have to add the calories but there is not end in sight. I'm trying to do what's best for her but the pumping is really getting to me. I stopped bf-ing (exclusively pumping/ds couldn't latch on, even with hep of two lactation consultants) at 6 weeks. Ped reminded me that she was formula fed and went to Ivy and became a doctor and that I shouldn't feel guilty in the slightest. A baby needs a happy, calm mother. You can bond while feeding in a bottle. [ Reply | More ]

#1 was BF until 6 months. #2 was born at 35 weeks and was tiny and needed extra calories added to BM and I pumped for 4 weeks. For whatever reasons, even with a hospital-grade pump and LC visits, it was diffuclt for me to produce enough BM and I felt as though I was mis-managing my time (instead of being with DC). I felt horribly guilty about it -- but my ped and my mom (who is a peds nurse and generally a fan of BF-ing) told me to get over it -- that DD would be fine, that I needed to make myself happy, etc. In my mind -- yes, there are well-documented benefits of BF-ing and it can be a wonderful experience for DB and mom, but many, many, many DBs are FF-fed and they turn out wonderfully, too. The parents who pulled their DCs out kept complaining that our public is not good enough for their DCs. They all applied to strong privates, but failed. Many of them were forced to move to NJ, some had DCs accepted at bottom-tier privates. Every year 10-15% of the parents attempt to find alternative placement for their DCs. Is that better? Take FloraVital ( by Salushaus) it's a liquid herbal/iron supplement and is amazing; There is no constipation and it's amazing in elevating your red cell count; everything circulates well and it's very well absorbed. You can get it at Fairway in the vitamin section or in most good natural food stores. Flordix is found more readily and is identical to Floravital with the exception of the yeast it contains; I went w/ the Floravital to avoid the yeast. My ob & my midwife approved it to replace pre-natal vitamins-which made me feel so gross. Check it out; I found it before pregnancy, to supplement my iron. I'm vegetarian and extremely physically active, so I can attest to the really quick results. [ Reply | More ]

Well, clearly you also find her beautiful looking, so why be jealous? They're just physical attributes #1; #2 you don't mention whether this is organic and/or if she seems to spend a lot of energy cultivating her physical appearance. It's a little sad how much envy and insecurity is purposefully crafted to sell a bunch of crap and sadder that so many people can't just be hip to it. If she was your child (or self), you'd probably find it frustrating and ignorant of people to constantly remark on such an obvious and superficial trait-which is very often simply genetic, quite unplanned or unable to be cultivated. It's interesting how many people get bashed for trying to enhance their appearances and others for not putting enough effort into their 'looks'- They are just that, remember. Quit being jealous; you're just playing into the machine of self-loathing which will make you ugly where it really does matter- inside yourself. [ Reply | More ]
