[ - ] Weigh in on this debate between dh and I: I took off my wedding band to apply sunscreen to the dc. I forgot about it and left it on a dresser. A few hours later I went to get it and it was gone. I immediately asked dh if he had it b/c he has a serious gambling problem. he swore that he didn't and was pissed that I even asked. A week of many tears and tearing apart the house yielded nothing. Then one morning after another exhausting search, I cried and begged dh to give it back or tell me where it was (if he pawned it) He said he didn't have it then hours later while I was out with the dc he calls me and says "I found the ring" of course I was thrilled but wanted to know where he found it. He said I found it in with my laundry. I didn't believe him b/c from where the ring was to where it was found the ring would have to had 1st: gotten from a high dresser to the laundry basket, 2nd: been carried down to the basement where the laundry is 3rd: gone through the laundry sorting, 4th: through the washer AND dryer and finally into my dh's unfolded laundry basket where he claims he found it. He swears his story is true, I say it's an impossible feat for my little ring to make that voyage. We're using you to settle it. So weigh in: did dh take the ring? or did the ring make this impossible voyage? TIA 10 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I'm not sure if it matter whether he took it or not. You're in a marriage where he has broken your trust to the point where it is conceivable he would pawn your wedding ring. That's the end. [ Reply | More ]

most likely he's lying. only other scenario is that your dc found it and put it in his pocket. it was then washed in dc's clothes, fell out in the washer or dryer and was then incorporated into a later load where your dh found it. lying seems the likelier scenario, however. [ Reply | More ]

Public or Private? 4yrs old DS is very verbal and cheerful, (and I think he is a smart boy, but that's subjective) but often gets carried away with his own thoughts (or his desire to say something) and misses the cues when teacher (or any adults) already moved on to next topic. Be open to everything. I have a ds who was very similar to your description when we started the process. He had 99 ERBs but sort of ran off at the mouth with enthusiasm. We had no idea what kind of school would be best for him. During the process, he matured a lot, we got very good feedback from several schools, but it did seem that the progressive schools were more interested in him. [ Reply | More ]

This was a couple of years ago, but yes, we chose progressive private. He's at Dalton. Has been a great fit for him. By the end of the application process, I thought he could handle a structured school. He's a good listener and academically is an extremely quick study, but he has lots of energy, ideas, etc., and sort of a free-wheeling impish personality. My gut told me that progressive would be a better fit. It's very hard to know which way to go. Fwiw, his preschool teacher thought he needed a structured, the psd was on the fence on which would be best. In retrospect, what he needed was less structure (and more flexibility). [ Reply | More ]

^^cont: Looking over the posts above, I agree with the above poster about CGPS and Cathedral. We liked both those schools as being sort of middle-of-the-road schools. They all end up in the same place. I'm a public school parent of a 2nd grader in a traditional school. My only thought is that if you go progressive be prepared for your dc to not be 'caught up' by 'academic' measures early on compared to kids in traditional schools. I know a few people who move their dcs out of progressive schools after K and into 'traditional' ones and their dcs needed some help catching up in reading and math. They caught up quickly of course and I'm sure they would have learned all they needed to in the progressive environment...just at a more relaxed pace [ Reply | More ]

np; i would just add that progressive is great for kids who sort of pick up things on their own even though nobody formally taught them those things (like reading, math, etc.) because it's more self paced and kids don't have to be bored to tears doing drills at traditional schools. [ Reply | More ]

It's totally normal for a 4 yr old to miss cues and want to continue discussing whatever is in his head at that moment. As long as DS doesn't have any other issues, that's not a reason to choose traditional over progressive. Progressive might be more patient at steering him, but some might be too gentle. DS sounds like yours and in large class at progressive G&T, he gets a mix of both (teachers get that he is long-winded and articulate, but they also gently move him along because the class is big and full of kids like that). Gold or bronze sandals would be great. A really bold choice would be blue or green. [ Reply | More ]

I would def do silver. gold may be too close to the orange and look weird. [ Reply | More ]

White would be smartest if they're strappy and not too high. Silver would be the next choice but avoid gladiator sandals in any color at all costs! [ Reply | More ]

maybe not what you want to hear, but our ped said to wait until at least 3 yrs as below that a child accnot really handle it. Friends disagreed and did the swim stuff. One day after many many many lessons, their child jumped in the pool and our friend watched to see how well he would swim... sunk like a stone. They called us right afterwards to tell us that the lessons gave their child a false sense of security. Just be very very careful. [ Reply | More ]
