At least half the kids take the bus. It's not fair for kids who walk to have mom or dad at the classroom when so many kids cannot. Plus...too many people in the building and it prevents the day from getting off to a quick start. [ Reply | More ]

at 11 very few kids take the bus...those that do waited in the cafeteria and in K they had an older student who was on their bus take them to their K classroom for a while. The drop off at the classroom door didn't interfere with anything. The parents know enough to not go in or bother the teacher in the morning [ Reply | More ]

Curriculum night is early in the year, and I think once the year gets started, there are opportunities for parents to visit the classroom to help on projects. It's an adjustment. FWIW, many private schools don't have drop-off at classrooms either, e.g., Chapin, Collegiate, NBS... [ Reply | More ]

It varies by school. Our previous school let parents bring dc to the classroom and hang out for a while to read or whatever. I hated it, dc hated it, and it seemed like the teacher hated it too. It's extremely disruptive and unfair to the dc whose parents can't do it. [ Reply | More ]

Drop off is in the school yard. Kids play until the school bell rings, k and 1st grade teachers come out the side door, kids line up by their teachers, parents say good bye as the kids walk in the door. [ Reply | More ]

At Nest you don't have to "drop" the kids off. You can hang out with them. They end up going off and playing with their friends anyways and could care less that their parents are there. [ Reply | More ]

There are school aides (same people who are watching them at recess) as well as school administrators - at least one Principal/AP per school. It's not as chaotic as it looks to an outsider. Kids pretty much stay with their grade/friends. If you know the children - and the adults in the yard all do, it's easy to spot "normal" from an issue, when it (rarely) arises. [ Reply | More ]

Would child ultimately die? I know someone who was induced around that time because the baby would die regardless - that way she and her DH could spend a bit of time with the baby before the baby died. [ Reply | More ]

It's the sister of a friend, I don't know her well. It was very traumatic, but they were helped by a program the hospital had for giving parents like them time and privacy with the baby (they have photos, etc). Not sure it's what I would have done, but then again I don't know if I could have just waited, not knowing when the baby would die, would have been torture. [ Reply | More ]

most hospitals are pretty good with that sort of thing now. Not like the old days. My mom's aunt had a baby many many years ago that was stillborn and they just whisked her away. My Aunt never got to see her at all and was expected to just go on like nothing happened. I think that is far worse. It would be torture and everyone deals with these things differently. You find out how strong you are when something awful happens. Sometimes I would prefer not to know how strong I can be! [ Reply | More ]

BTDT sort of. We had a baby who died from a heart defect. We knew about it before he was born but thought that with surgery he would be ok. You just deal. You have no choice. I wish no one ever had to face it though. Can't stand hearing about people losing children. Sigh [ Reply | More ]

Don't know about the others, but we are very happy with our Bellini crib. It's on it's third baby - the finish is really strong, not a chip or scratch on it, and it's still really sturdy. My only complaint is that the styles are a little dated at Bellini. [ Reply | More ]
