For kindergarten at PS 9 and Anderson, the kids go to the lunchroom. Older kids are dropped off at the yard. [ Reply | More ]

that is great that 11 lets you drop off at classroom for the younger grades. what's up with this business of not letting parents go up to the room?? [ Reply | More ]

At least half the kids take the bus. It's not fair for kids who walk to have mom or dad at the classroom when so many kids cannot. Plus...too many people in the building and it prevents the day from getting off to a quick start. [ Reply | More ]

at 11 very few kids take the bus...those that do waited in the cafeteria and in K they had an older student who was on their bus take them to their K classroom for a while. The drop off at the classroom door didn't interfere with anything. The parents know enough to not go in or bother the teacher in the morning [ Reply | More ]

Usually, you take your kid to the office and an aide takes them to the room. [ Reply | More ]

Curriculum night is early in the year, and I think once the year gets started, there are opportunities for parents to visit the classroom to help on projects. It's an adjustment. FWIW, many private schools don't have drop-off at classrooms either, e.g., Chapin, Collegiate, NBS... [ Reply | More ]

Well, first they torture the kids. Then it's lockdown with no talking for the rest of the day. Anything else you need to know? Honestly....they LEARN stuff and make friends and that's about it. [ Reply | More ]

It varies by school. Our previous school let parents bring dc to the classroom and hang out for a while to read or whatever. I hated it, dc hated it, and it seemed like the teacher hated it too. It's extremely disruptive and unfair to the dc whose parents can't do it. [ Reply | More ]

Drop off is in the school yard. Kids play until the school bell rings, k and 1st grade teachers come out the side door, kids line up by their teachers, parents say good bye as the kids walk in the door. [ Reply | More ]

At Nest you don't have to "drop" the kids off. You can hang out with them. They end up going off and playing with their friends anyways and could care less that their parents are there. [ Reply | More ]

LL drop off is on 3rd ave entrance, and kids go directly into the auditorium opposite the entrance (you can watch them go in if you're a heli-mom, but most don't) [ Reply | More ]

Anderson and PS 9 drop off in K (after the orientation walk-in period of about a week) inside the school at the security desk and kids walk a short hallway to the cafeteria. Drop off in yard for both schools starts in first grade. [ Reply | More ]

There are school aides (same people who are watching them at recess) as well as school administrators - at least one Principal/AP per school. It's not as chaotic as it looks to an outsider. Kids pretty much stay with their grade/friends. If you know the children - and the adults in the yard all do, it's easy to spot "normal" from an issue, when it (rarely) arises. [ Reply | More ]

From K, drop off in yard, where the parents hang back until the class line marches into the school together. Not sure what the big deal is. [ Reply | More ]
