My friend did. The store where she bought it was very unhelpful (wanted her to pay to send it back to them at great cost) so she complained to headquarters and eventually they refunded her. She was told there had been a problem with a batch of rugs but it was harmless. [ Reply | More ]

whatever he can tolerate - just not juices or gatorade. Too much sugar. If he likes milk, try skim - my DS always drinks whole milk, but can't tolerate the fat when sick and vomits it up. Skim milk works like a charm and he usually keeps it down. GL! [ Reply | More ]

actually, mine do fine with the original Gatorade. They don't love the flavor, but it usually stays down and I don't really think sugar is a bad thing here. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.29.08, 01:22 PM Flag

Disagree completely - gatorade is not good for your child when they are sick. (It's also awful for them when they're well). The sugar in Gatorade and any other sugary drink actually draws out more water from your child's body, making the dehydration worse. (This is why sugary drinks are not thirst quenching even when you're well. They can actually reduce the amount of H2O in your body.) Pedialyte, IMO, is absolutley awful. My kids have never, ever drank it for me, so I use the Pedialyte ice pops, very diluted 100% juice or skim milk. [ Reply | More ]

than why do sports teams all rehydrate with gatorade and drinks like them ? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.29.08, 01:38 PM Flag
»
Athletes should always be fully hydrated prior to an athletic competition, preferably with water. During competition, an athlete sweats and loses electrolytes and fluid. If they consume large amounts of water, their electrolytes may be off. Also, athletes can use the sugar from the gatorade to maintain optimal performance. However, we're talking about little kids here who are vomiting and already in a state of dehydration. Gatorade will only hasten dehydration. Pedialyte is always the first option, but like I said, it's pretty disgusting. Pediapops work better. [ Reply | More ]

Advice the OP can use: Pedialyte by the dropperful. If he won't take pedialyte straight, try mixing it with apple juice. If he won't take that, watery apple juice is better than nothing. The big problem here is dehydration. He can go without food for a couple days. Start with one dropperful every five minutes. If he can tolerate that, then increase the frequency to two minutes, then increase the amount. This is hard, but a trip to the ER is harder. [ Reply | More ]

The Pediapop advice above is good, too, once he can hold down a few dropperfuls. It might come too fast if his stomach isn't quite ready. I kept my DD out of the hospital when she had a stomach flu for four straight days. [ Reply | More ]

I feel for you-just not in the way you might expect. Your kids come first and you are the employer; there is no reason to consider this an unpleasant confrontation. I do think it's fair and important that you AND your partner sit down with her and let her know that you've conversed w/ the service. She's 19- she'll bounce back and her next position isn't your concern, really; your family's is. [ Reply | More ]

ps If you have some sort of emotion invested in this girl's welfare, then you should let her know where she fell short and in some of the ways. Perhaps she'll get some important insight to bring to her next situation or realize this type of gig isn't for her; It really sounds as if it isn't. Remember you aren't fostering this girl-you hired her and it was simply a poor match. Be upfront w/her if you want to give her any consolation; 19 is very young. Would you have hired a typical American 19yr old to care for your kids? I know I wouldn't, with very few exceptions. Why should a typical European kid be expected to be any more mature or responsible? Just curious... [ Reply | More ]

Divorce follows and then your au pair and ex have visitation with the kids every other weekend! Horrific, right? My good friend's cousin lived in a town where this happened (Au Pair In America) and it was a scandal, and 10 years later they are still talking about it. Don't hire a pretty au pair. [ - ] so the legacy post has now made me think. DH went to yale and columbia law, he never donates (he's in politics, not law and we aren't rich). If our kids decided they wanted to go to either school would the "legacy" of not donating actually hurt their chances? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

i got into an ivy, albeit with all A's, that my father and uncles went to. Not one donated a penny [ Reply | More ]

that makes me feel better. I'm not interested in buying our children's way into either place, but I also know that dh talks about how much fun he had at yale, and if they were smart enough to get in and wanted to go, I wouldn't want to hinder them either. [ Reply | More ]

Don't count on legacies - my father and grandfather both went to Harvard and donated lots, I was an A student with great SATs, lots of activities, but I didn't get in and that was 15 years ago. You can't predict what a college will want in any particular year but they won't want all legacies. I did just fine at a non-Ivy, and so do most of us. :) [ Reply | More ]

op here: I did too, so I don't really care if they go or not. I'm surprised if they donated lot though that you didn't get in with your stats... [ Reply | More ]

legacies aren't as important as they used to be. If you donated enoguh to have a building named after you, then you'd be in business. [ Reply | More ]

there's no way that's happening. So the people who are donating as much as they can every year, but don't have a ton to give are basically wasting their money? [ Reply | More ]

I think the idea behind donating is to give back to the school that gave you so much. [ Reply | More ]

this is going to sound funny, but duct tape. It is more effective then even the prescription medications. My dh had a very annoying wart that refused to go away after almost a year of dermatologist treatments, and went away in a month of very consistent use of duct tape. Very odd... [ Reply | More ]

no, it's really true. I heard it on npr. DH's wart didn't respond to treatment for a year, and then it goes away w/in a month w/ duct tape. That doesn't sound like a placebo to me. [ Reply | More ]

I didn't prep or do what you just described, but have no problem with people who did. It is not an IQ test - therefore, it is the type of test that should be prepped. The DOE even gave a "practice" test. If prepped mentthe differnce b/t a 93 and 99 for someone with bad district options so be it. Good for them. [ Reply | More ]
