so the legacy post has now made me think. DH went to yale and columbia law, he never donates (he's in politics, not law and we aren't rich). If our kids decided they wanted to go to either school would the "legacy" of not donating actually hurt their chances? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

that makes me feel better. I'm not interested in buying our children's way into either place, but I also know that dh talks about how much fun he had at yale, and if they were smart enough to get in and wanted to go, I wouldn't want to hinder them either. [ Reply | More

Don't count on legacies - my father and grandfather both went to Harvard and donated lots, I was an A student with great SATs, lots of activities, but I didn't get in and that was 15 years ago. You can't predict what a college will want in any particular year but they won't want all legacies. I did just fine at a non-Ivy, and so do most of us. :) [ Reply | More
