Fiance and I moved in together but then I lost my job (was awful, layoff) and am still regrouping. i bought some things for the house on our joint credit card account and will pay with my first freelance paycheck but he freaked out, said I "stole" from him. His ex-wife (whom I know) warned me that he was very frugal with things for her or the house but had no problem buying things for himself, going on trips, etc. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

If you marry him, you will be miserable. And so will your dc. [ Reply | More ]

you need to get out of that relationship. You bought the things for both of you. How is that stealing? [ Reply | More ]

I would think the minute your fiance accuses you of "stealing" from him in order to furnish a house, that's the moment you sell the engagement ring, "pay him back" and move out. [ Reply | More ]

sometimes something liek a layoff can actually be a blessing. you learned a lot about this man and what it will be like to live with him and be married to him. now you can make whatever choices you need to make. [ Reply | More ]

np: Yes, a friend's sister didn't realize what a selfish ass her DH was until she got cancer. They already had children. He didn't support her through treatments, and when she died, he let his ILs take the kids. Friend says her sister was so shocked by his attitude that she really gave up fighting. He's now engaged to another woman, she's pg - and he sees his kids only a few times a year. [ Reply | More ]

I know. Luckily, it is a large family and they have lots of cousins/aunts/uncles nearby - I think that is really helping them get through this. [ Reply | More ]

^^Anyway, I think a crisis is a good way to test the mettle of a relationship - and throws into relief any character flaws in a person. [ Reply | More ]
