we took classes at realbirth. my husband (a physician) thought we could have gotten the same info elsewhere in less time, and he was probably right. but i liked being around other expecting couples and comparing experiences. it actually made me feel really sane because i wasn't nearly as worried as some of the other moms! chantal was our teacher and we liked her a lot. she may not be teaching for a while, though, because she was 38 wks pg herself when the class ended! we had to change classes one night for scheduling reasons and had catherine, who we did not like AT ALL. had to stop dh from walking out during the break. I took them and picked up some pointers, but looking back, not sure I needed to spend that much time on them. The infant care and breastfeeding are things you can also get in the hospital after you give birth - they have them a few times a week right in the maternity ward. [ Reply | More ]

I used a boogie board for my 4 yr old twins every day taking them to preschool - it worked great. I did it bec. we had to go up stairs & it was a LOT easier to lug the single than the double all the way up to where they stored them for the day. Unfortunately you cannt fold them at all (at least not my Maclaren) once the board is attached, but it was worth it for me. Since we did it every day they always took turns standing/sitting (standing the way there, sitting the way back). Yet another example of how twins learn to share from day one! [ Reply | More ]

There may be another type that allows you to fold, I just got the biggest one since I knew we would be using it every day. Have to say it wasn't that sturdy - broke within a year & had to buy another one. But, obviously, we were giving it quite a workout! [ Reply | More ]

I agree that the park could be so hot and then you have to be stressed about weather. If the other kids are babies, you could do a restaurant - maybe Nick's (the pizza/past place) which has a nice private room and isn't crazy expensive. If it's more of a toddler party, you can do Jodi's Gym on East 84th. If it's a hybrid, you can look into the 92nd Street Y, renting raw space - Rhinelander (with a little playground, so reasonable), All Souls. By the way, Music for Aardvarks performs at parties - I think the music thing is good if the kids have a range of ages. [ Reply | More ]

yomi is a Y camp, so it's party subsidized, as are all Y camps. which is why it's a bit less expensive, and why people can qualify for scholarships. not sure if privately run camps offer scholarships too. yomi is a great camp -- have only heard terrific things about it. they take a ton of kids. my dd's unit, which consists of all kids entering 2nd grade next year, has 21 groups of about 16 kids per group. there are four total units. doing the math, allowing for smaller group sizes in the youngest groups and larger group sizes in the older groups, we're talking about around 1200 kids in the camp! If you cared about your sister's situation, you would have given her some money to buy what she chose for her son. But you chose to lord it over her instead. Nice. [ Reply | More ]

I can understand why you sister was hesitant to accept that. It was over the top. But more importantly I understand why you did it, and I disagree with all the nasty comments above. I would love to have a sister/aunt like you. [ Reply | More ]

If somebody gave my ds an X box w/o consulting me, I'd cut her off forever - I don't want my son doing video games until I decide it is appropriate. My call, not yours [ Reply | More ]

I used to get sharp pain during landings and sometimes take off, and I've found the only thing that helps (and it sounds ridiculous) is to hold my nose and blow hard several times. It's the only thing that clears the pressure for me. [ Reply | More ]

we just saw it; it was incredible and I am getting tix for my parents as well. We had front row seats, which were horrible. The set is a three story house, so I'd say you are better w/mezz than front orchestra. Who knew? [ Reply | More ]
