Please. I put my kid on the bus on First Avenue and there were about 15 kids at our stop alone. [ Reply | More ]

I am sending my dd for the first time this year. I'm nervous! But there was one nice girl at our stop on 2nd ave., so that helped. Your bus must be one of the full size buses. Ours is a mini bus. [ Reply | More ]

My DC is also going for the first time (but has a lot of friends who are going as well) - very excited. Can't wait to hear about how today went. Yes, the First Ave. bus is full-sized. [ Reply | More ]

all of the larger day camps where kids leave the city cost almost $1000 per week. [ Reply | More ]

what do the kids get for $1000 a week? This is more expensive than preschool. [ Reply | More ]

our daughter is at Yomi. They get driven out of the city daily (air-conditioned bus, etc.) lots ofexperienced, trained counselors, big lovely piece of land, swimming twice a day (fun & instructional) martial arts, yoga, sports, music, arts & crafts, that sort of thing. [ Reply | More ]

ok. I still don't see how that justifies the price. How many kids do they accept per summer? [ Reply | More ]

I don't know how it justifies the price either except it clearly costs a lot to put on the whole shindig. We got a great scholarship so we're not paying full price anyway. Not sure how many kids--a LOT. [ Reply | More ]

Now you got my attention. Camps give out scholarships? How do you qualify? [ Reply | More ]

by not having enough money, lol. We're paying $2000 for Yomi rather than more than $5000. [ Reply | More ]

i would imagine it's based on need -- call the camp office and ask. [ Reply | More ]

yomi is a Y camp, so it's party subsidized, as are all Y camps. which is why it's a bit less expensive, and why people can qualify for scholarships. not sure if privately run camps offer scholarships too. yomi is a great camp -- have only heard terrific things about it. they take a ton of kids. my dd's unit, which consists of all kids entering 2nd grade next year, has 21 groups of about 16 kids per group. there are four total units. doing the math, allowing for smaller group sizes in the youngest groups and larger group sizes in the older groups, we're talking about around 1200 kids in the camp! honestly, I think camps also charge a shitload because they know they have you by the balls. You have to keep working and you need the care and you want it to be good. [ Reply | More ]

I think most moms at Hillard and similar camps (Mohawk, Pierce etc) are SAHMs. They cost that much b/c real estate taxes, insurance etc are extremely expensive. [ Reply | More ]
