Thats not what will happen, this is happening because the schools have so much more money to spend on scholarships so they don't need to take x. y. andz from a wealthy family that can pay full price tution. It isn't because Dalton dcs are not qualified it is that the schools want to diversify with an economic mix. 2nd and 3rd tier schools aren't getting better just because HYP isn't taking as many Dalton dcs [ Reply | More ]

All the tts broker college placement, this happens once in awhile. Dalton is an excellent school but for the number of students per class their HYP is not very impressive when compared with numbers elsewhere. Also remember HYP have such huge endowments they can afford to spred out much more FA. Dh is a princeton alum and they sent out a letter saying they are no longer accepting $$ for FA pools! i am so sick of the people on this board that think that the quality of a school can be judged by what percentage of kids get into HYP. its absurd. That is not what its about. We're not getting FA but so very, very far from over-privileged. But will admit, have been second-guessing choice for months. I don't disagree but I went to a suburban public in NY and my HS sent a bunch of kids to HYP and HS didn't cost $30,000/year. Granted that was 20+ years ago when it wasn't as competitive to get into college. [ Reply | More ]

But the point this OR is making is that your going to HYP is great, but what did you actually learn during high school? Not much in comparison to what these dcs from tt do. There is all this talk of private school education being so this and so that, and it could be true, how could I know. Me, too, but I think exmissions from those schools has changed, too. I went to a small college that usually had 3-6 DC per class from my high school. I agree that many newbies to privates in NYC focus only on college, but you cannot fault them, they don't understand the level of academics these privates provide. My brother and I had a lot of difficulty in HS because of a similar issue. Although we were at the same public school, I was in a magnet program that he did not get into. I think it was really hard on him, especially when he (my older bro) would have my teachers AFTER I'd had them. LOL, you can't keep it that way together. Whether or not they care is really dependent on their personalities. I went to better school than my brother, did better in school and yet ended up with perfectly mediocre career (which I am considering giving up entirely). My brother did not get it together until law school, but guess who is the super successful partner in a law firm now:). There is more to life than where kids go to school. As long as you treat them fairly and it's fine. [ Reply | More ]

Therapist suggested DH be more "loose" on the weekends and give in to my requests to clothe, clean up after DS while I go for a run in the AM, then I will jump in from there. Flight delayed, delayed, delayed then cancelled. Airline wouldn't pay for hotel. Booked us on flight for the next am. Yes, we think that if you see a large amount of retail outlets and various ethnic culinary kiosks, you will enjoy yourself more. Think about being able to get a manacure or a massage while you wait. That is untrue. Waits are caused by airlines waiting for a free gage while refusing to pay fees to use another airlines' available gate. When my flight is delayed, I would like the option of arrivig at the airport w/i an hour/two hours of the delayed takeoff, not the original takeoff. I get tired of the green high horse that people get on when they think they should do what they want but I should change my whole life. Maybe I was projecting onto you but saying high gas prices are a good thing is idiotic. It will hurt most people in one way or another. Gas provides transportation for most goods in this country. Higher prices means higher prices on everything. That means people buy less stuff and production has to be cut back. That means people lose their jobs. The whole economy could fall because gas prices are going up. There are reasonable things that can be done but this is ridiculous [ Reply | More ]
