One child at Hunter one child at decent district g&t. Right now kids have no clue that one school is more prestigious than the other and I hope to keep it that way forever. Did anyone else in a similar situation ever have to face a time when the non-Hunter (or TT kid) realized that he/she was at a different type of school and questioned whether he/she was as smart as sibling? I went to Hunter and my two best friends went to the local public. I was jealous of THEM until about 11th grade. They seemed to have a more normal school life. [ Reply | More ]

I have a friend whose brother went to Hunter and she was fine with it, very accomplished in her own right. [ Reply | More ]

I went to school here and the dcs do recognize the level of prestigious schools vs not. Especially private vs Hunter vs public. At about 5th grade or 6th grade we knew where we stood and so did the other dcs [ Reply | More ]

I went to a G&T school while my sister did not and we both realized there was a difference and what it was. It was hard not to when we went to different schools. I don't think it mattered though. Like above poster, in some ways I was jealous of my sister b/c she went to school w/ kids in the neighborhood and knew a lot more kids in general, while I went to school with the same 30 geeky kids forever. Not OP, but I know from the top of my head 5 kids at our G&T that have older siblings at Hunter. Hardly an uncommon situation. [ Reply | More ]

My brother and I had a lot of difficulty in HS because of a similar issue. Although we were at the same public school, I was in a magnet program that he did not get into. I think it was really hard on him, especially when he (my older bro) would have my teachers AFTER I'd had them. Had we been at different schools, I think it would have been a lot easier, especially if both were good schools (as is the case with your kids). [ Reply | More ]

Love reading these posts. When a private school mommy last month said her dc at public was jealous of her dc at tt private everyone flamed because the mom was implying private was better than gen ed. Now g&t public moms are claiming superiority over gen ed publics. The difference is SO MINIMAL [ Reply | More ]

My brother and I both went to Hunter, but most of our friends had siblings who did not go to Hunter. I don't think it was ever a big deal in their sibling relationships. And, even though my brother and I both went to the same school we sometimes had tensions over who was doing better, etc. Just don't make it a big issue and both your kids will be fine with it. LOL, you can't keep it that way together. Whether or not they care is really dependent on their personalities. I went to better school than my brother, did better in school and yet ended up with perfectly mediocre career (which I am considering giving up entirely). My brother did not get it together until law school, but guess who is the super successful partner in a law firm now:). There is more to life than where kids go to school. As long as you treat them fairly and it's fine. [ Reply | More ]
