Seriously, where is everyone? How can there be no posts yet about the article in yesterday's Page Six magazine detailing how no kids from Dalton got into Harvard this past year? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Maybe Harvard got the memo that D is not really a TT school but a hot school. Probably, they have had enough time to watch how poorly the D HYP students do in comparison to their tt counterparts. How is that for biting? ;-) [ Reply | More ]

There is reason Dalton has never made its exmissions list public unlike the other schools. Finally, reality has come to roost. [ Reply | More ]

you are mad as a hatter. Dalton prepares and sends kids to the top universities in the country. it's a shame your dc couldn't get in. [ Reply | More ]

The most interesting thing about that article is the fact that Marymount sent nearly 10 percent of its class to Harvard last year. [ Reply | More ]

Thats not what will happen, this is happening because the schools have so much more money to spend on scholarships so they don't need to take x. y. andz from a wealthy family that can pay full price tution. It isn't because Dalton dcs are not qualified it is that the schools want to diversify with an economic mix. 2nd and 3rd tier schools aren't getting better just because HYP isn't taking as many Dalton dcs [ Reply | More ]

Does anyone think Dalton will do better at HYP and other top colleges once its more diverse classes start graduating? [ Reply | More ]

Dalton has always been diverse, actors singers, mixed race, religion etc...in the 70s and 80s! [ Reply | More ]

right. because HM is the only TT with legacy families, are you high? [ Reply | More ]

Obviously Dalton didn't have any legacies at those schools this year! [ Reply | More ]

How do you figure? I am sure they had some legacies, just not strong enough to get accepted. Even as a legacy you have to be a very strong student to get in. [ Reply | More ]

I can't say I'm surprised...wouldn't it be ironic if in a few years, kids at "2nd or 3rd tier" schools end up faring better at the Ivies? [ Reply | More ]

All the tts broker college placement, this happens once in awhile. Dalton is an excellent school but for the number of students per class their HYP is not very impressive when compared with numbers elsewhere. Also remember HYP have such huge endowments they can afford to spred out much more FA. Dh is a princeton alum and they sent out a letter saying they are no longer accepting $$ for FA pools! Picked Dalton over HM for DD for K this fall. The article left a bit of a knot in my stomach, although when I read the HM article in New York Mag a few months ago I felt glad I had not selected HM. [ Reply | More ]

i am so sick of the people on this board that think that the quality of a school can be judged by what percentage of kids get into HYP. its absurd. That is not what its about. It should be about getting the best education for your child, in an environment that wil work best for them. And hopefully, this will lead them to thrive. [ Reply | More ]

also sick to death of these over-priveleged types supposedly second-guessing their choice of several "TT" schools. don't they realize how fortunate they are, and what a rarified world they live in?? [ Reply | More ]

We're not getting FA but so very, very far from over-privileged. But will admit, have been second-guessing choice for months. Made best choice for what DC's current personality is - but who knows - she's only just turned five. She'll likely be a different person in a few years. Think the choice would have been supremely easier if DC was older. [ Reply | More ]

Amen to that! But of course, it's UB, so people actually think that paying all that money "entitles" their dc to an Ivy education. [ Reply | More ]

I don't disagree but I went to a suburban public in NY and my HS sent a bunch of kids to HYP and HS didn't cost $30,000/year. Granted that was 20+ years ago when it wasn't as competitive to get into college. [ Reply | More ]

But the point this OR is making is that your going to HYP is great, but what did you actually learn during high school? Not much in comparison to what these dcs from tt do. I think she is saying that is the real reason you should send your dc to these schools if they can hack it. I agree with her. [ Reply | More ]

There is all this talk of private school education being so this and so that, and it could be true, how could I know. But as a graduate of a good but not amazing public school, I just never felt like the private school kids from the city that I encountered in college, grad school or on dates particularly wowed me with "critical reasoning skills." I could definitely hold my own with them. [ Reply | More ]

Me, too, but I think exmissions from those schools has changed, too. I went to a small college that usually had 3-6 DC per class from my high school. Friend who moved back told me that almost no one from our HS gets admitted to our alma mater any more. It's much more competitive these days. [ Reply | More ]

I agree that many newbies to privates in NYC focus only on college, but you cannot fault them, they don't understand the level of academics these privates provide. It is for the education itself, but many parents feel like the money they are paying is supposed to be an investment in where their dc goes to college [ Reply | More ]

OR: Yes, DH and I are public-schooled newbies and have no way to compare the level of education we received with the opportunities DC will have in her new private. I won't lie though. I am hoping that our $500,000 investment in DC's education ultimately helps DC get into a good college. It does not have to be HYP, but.... [ Reply | More ]

of course, and I understand your interest in that investment! we feel differently, only because we know that the education dcs will receive will far exceed the first two years of any college they go to including HYP who do a lot of playing catch up for the other dcs not as fortunate prior to 18 [ Reply | More ]
