I think it's $10K for a doorman/new/bldg with a pool but there must be some for $6K or so? I live on the Upper East Side in the 90s, but have lived in Soho, West Village, near Columbia and on the UWS. I like downtown for restaurants but with kids do like the Carnegie Hill part of the UES - near the park, west of Lex. Its very quiet and it's nice to have the park and the 92nd Street Y, museums, etc. right here. I find the eastern side of the UES kind of ehh and not cheaper than where I live anyway. I just bought a 1400 sq ft, 2 bd, 2 bath on Garth Rd in Eastchester, for $350K and I just love it. We moved from midtown manhattan there and its better that i imagined. Schools are highly rated, door to door school bus service and after school program. Playground, little league field and basket ball courts right across the street. 10 min walk to train - 27 min ride to Grand Central. 10 min walk to village of Scarsdale with a grocery store, great shopping, very quaint. I should have done this years ago. [ Reply | More ]

The treatment alone does not work (and it is crazily toxic). The only thing to do is comb and comb and comb with the very fine-toothed lice comb. Make sure you have gotten all the eggs out. They look like little swellings along the hair. You have to comb thoroughly for a few days in a row, because the eggs grow and grow before the lice hatch, and you have to make sure you have caught them before they hatch. If they were too small for your comb one day, you'll catch them the next. We all came home from vacation with lice one year. The combing was more or less a full time job for a week. [ Reply | More ]

I think you probably still have lice, if all you have done is the chemical treatment. If I remember correctly, that only kills the live lice, not the eggs. So once the eggs hatch, you have lice again. I'm sorry. It's a horrible curse. [ Reply | More ]

we did CIO at about 4.5 mos, it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. would have done a ferber-type approach but we had never gotten in habit of going in to just soothe her- if i went in when she woke up she always got milk, so we decided to just go for it at once. we left her when she cried, and after a few nights it completely stopped. (and this was from waking up every 2 hrs or more) a 5mo is certainly old enough to sleep through, so i would do it, good luck!! [ Reply | More ]

We did at 6mos. The Ferber going in at intervals didn't seem to really do much so we went for it at once too. Over the course of a week. Really helped. But then I was a bit concerned b/c during the day she'd start freaking every time I left the room as if I wouldn't come back which she never used to. So I'd really try to go with the chekn gin on intervals. For us though, since we waited until 6mos, the next week she got sick, then she started teething, now we're going on vacation, so everything got thrown out the window. I'd start now, b/c at the 6mo mark so many things start happening that'll interrupt sleep that'll just make it harder. GL (and I agree with other poster to make sure you time it b/c you'll realize it's not nearly as long as it seems) [ Reply | More ]

There are 4 of us and we don't earn the big bucks; she's by herself and works for herself and does much of her work by phone and laptop. DH is heartbroken she won't visit, and her explanation is that she wants to but the logistics sound impossible. We've offered to pay half of her tix and she took it (never mind that we've offered before and she says she doesn't remember this). She's a fascinating, interesting person, generally warm toward the kids, but I'm pissed at this and wonder why she's doing this.
