How much 3BR apt. rent in your area? We currently pay $8000 in Tribeca but thnking to move because we will be sending DC to private(and DC#2 will be K in few years). DC will be commuting anyway so any location will be considered. Also do you like where you live? [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

Ditto - We pay $3500 for a 3 BR and LOVE it. Great place to raise kids, but forget about the local school - most travel to Manhattan. [ Reply | More ]

I would avoid the middle school. The elementary school is good enough as long as you supplement at home. [ Reply | More ]

I think it's $10K for a doorman/new/bldg with a pool but there must be some for $6K or so? I live on the Upper East Side in the 90s, but have lived in Soho, West Village, near Columbia and on the UWS. I like downtown for restaurants but with kids do like the Carnegie Hill part of the UES - near the park, west of Lex. Its very quiet and it's nice to have the park and the 92nd Street Y, museums, etc. right here. I find the eastern side of the UES kind of ehh and not cheaper than where I live anyway. 2100 SF though, pretty great space. We pay about $6500 a month for our mortgage/common charges, though, but bought in 2002. [ Reply | More ]

I just bought a 1400 sq ft, 2 bd, 2 bath on Garth Rd in Eastchester, for $350K and I just love it. We moved from midtown manhattan there and its better that i imagined. Schools are highly rated, door to door school bus service and after school program. Playground, little league field and basket ball courts right across the street. 10 min walk to train - 27 min ride to Grand Central. 10 min walk to village of Scarsdale with a grocery store, great shopping, very quaint. I should have done this years ago. [ Reply | More ]

I believe you can get a 3BR in Forest Hills in the $3K range. 20 mins on the subway gets you to midtown. Forest Park, tons of playgrounds, kids' leagues, activities etc. [ Reply | More ]
