my 5 yo hates going to camp, complaining that it is boring and babyish. Problem is, my 3.5 yo is there too. If I pull the 5 yo out, my younger will not want to stay. I'm a SAHM with a baby at home. Camp is until 2. WWYD? The camp admin, btw, has been totally unresponsive. [ Reply | Watch | Flag ]

is the older one the kind of kid who would want to go to "take care of" the younger one? My mom used to pull that on me all the time! [ Reply | More ]

older does look out for younger, but it is not enough to keep her engaged there, I gather, since she has been complaining. I feel bad for younger but I don't want older to be bored. She might have more fun just tagging along with me. [ Reply | More ]

i'm having a similar problem with my 4 yo and camp this year. He is in hysterics every time I take him and I also have a new baby at home. He wants to be with me during the day; I had thought having a routine would be better for him, but think I was wrong. Figured out if I pull him now, I'll lose about 2K, since camp will not even consider a refund. We're both miserable! [ Reply | More ]

op: i think i'll do it. my inlaws are coming and dcs can hang out with them. Screw this stupid camp. Morningside Montessori, by the way. Their attitude has been "so what." Just appalling. [ Reply | More ]

Those camps attached to schools are often crappy and overpriced the teachers need the money so they work but aren't much fun. I think the ones staffed with high school and college kids are more fun and worth the $. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. My ds is bored in camp too. Next year I am sending him to a real summer camp. Spending $1800 to hear nothing but complaints every morning is no fun. [ Reply | More ]

np: same experience here, did not want to do a special summer camp for dc (4) but the camp at this preschool is seriously boring. She is ready for real camp. [ Reply | More ]

Even the expensive ones. We paid $3k or so to send 3 yo DD to Emanu-El last year and it was very lame. She is at real camp this summer. [ Reply | More ]
