we did CIO at about 4.5 mos, it wasn't nearly as bad as i thought it would be. would have done a ferber-type approach but we had never gotten in habit of going in to just soothe her- if i went in when she woke up she always got milk, so we decided to just go for it at once. we left her when she cried, and after a few nights it completely stopped. (and this was from waking up every 2 hrs or more) a 5mo is certainly old enough to sleep through, so i would do it, good luck!! [ Reply | More ]

similar story here. about 4.5 months we just let her cry one night and it lasted abuot 45 minutes and then agian the next few nights and then stopped completely. Just busy yourself doing other things. if you just sit outside her door listening to her cry, you will never be abel to do it. [ Reply | More ]

or- also, i realized that the baby wanted to eat because she was used to being fed constantly all night, but that she didn't need to. this was a major realization for me, to understand that the baby would regulate herself during the day, and take in enough milk to last her through the night. i never ever believed this would happen, but then i saw how true it was [ Reply | More ]

np also time the baby crying. Sometimes it felt like DD cried for an hour but when I looked at the clock, it was only 10 minsutes. Hard to hear but good in the end [ Reply | More ]

OP: thank you! I needed to hear all of this. I can't believe how guilty I fee; even though everyone we know who has "good sleepers" had their babies CIO [ Reply | More ]

We did at 6mos. The Ferber going in at intervals didn't seem to really do much so we went for it at once too. Over the course of a week. Really helped. But then I was a bit concerned b/c during the day she'd start freaking every time I left the room as if I wouldn't come back which she never used to. So I'd really try to go with the chekn gin on intervals. For us though, since we waited until 6mos, the next week she got sick, then she started teething, now we're going on vacation, so everything got thrown out the window. I'd start now, b/c at the 6mo mark so many things start happening that'll interrupt sleep that'll just make it harder. GL (and I agree with other poster to make sure you time it b/c you'll realize it's not nearly as long as it seems) [ Reply | More ]
