[ - ] Did you use cream to prevent stretch marks when pregnant? What kind and do you think it worked? Thanks! 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I use reg. lotion in general all over but stretch marks will appear with or without cream. It all depends on you skins elasticity [ Reply | More ]

i use the cocoa butter stuff. luckily i didn't get thru both pregnancies but i don't think it had to do with the cream. i think keeping your weight in a normal range and genetics plays into it. gl! [ Reply | More ]

Thanks. Was it just cocoa butter from a drug store or a special kind? [ Reply | More ]

Stretch marks are primary determined by genetics. Creams won't help. They will deal with the itchy skin issue though. [ Reply | More ]

Korres Guava Butter. I think it did work, but I wish I made a better effort to put it on the bottom, underneath the baby bump, b/c the skin there doesn't look all that great. The top where I was putting the lotion looks fine though. [ Reply | More ]

I've been told it's genetics, but I was vigilant about using products and got no stretch marks. I alternated between pure almond oil, pure shea butter, La Roc stretch mark oil and Biotherm bio-vergetures gel. No idea which one was the magic ingredient (if any). Also told that gaining weight slowly and steadily helps. [ Reply | More ]

i'm 40 wks pg and no stretch marks so far! lavender shea butter after every shower all over the belly feels wonderful (and helps with the itchiness) but i don't think it necessarily made a difference. my ob said a slow and steady weight gain is the absolute best way to prevent stretch marks. yes please insist. You are the mother. She did things her way but now it's not her child..it's her grandchild and she needs to respect how you do things with your ds. I'm sure she wouldn't have appreciated someone chiming in on her mothering skills when you all were kids [ Reply | More ]

your mom is WRONG..this can make things just go back to how it was a yr ago. She is rude and being lazy in insisting that he wear a diaper. My dad wanted this and I said NO. I was very stern with my NO since he was worried my dd would have an accident during the night (which she never did). He said but if she gets up? I said if she gets up to use the potty at 3 am so be it..that's much better than pee'ing in the bed. He treats everyone like a baby until they are like 40 yr old [ Reply | More ]

if she doesn't want to deal with accidents than she shouldn't have him over until he's going to college. Sounds like she doesn't want to deal with clean up. She is really wrong in wanting to put him back into diapers. This will def. do something to his progress. Why should he try if he can do it in the diaper [ Reply | More ]

I agree it's wrong. However, at least have him wear pull ups so he can use the toilet, but give your mother some peace of mind. I'm not saying this is ideal, but if your mom is watching dc and you can't bring him home, you should do this. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] HELP! The binky is taking over our lives! 2-almost 3 yo is completely attached to his binky. It's got to go-starting speech therapy soon. DD was so easy-but nothing is working with this one. If it goes missing he spends the entire day wailing and searching for it. He stands at my feet sobbing and begging for it. sometimes I can distract him, but most of the time he is miserable and inconsolable. We have cut the end thinking he would think it broken and he FREAKED. We have talked about the Binky Fairy. He hates her guts. We have discussed how he's almost three and he doesn't need it anymore. Anyone been through this ridiculous trauma and has tips to get me through this? Please...share your ideas. TIA 12 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

Sounds tough. How about planning a trip to the toy store where he can buy a toy that he wants but he has to 'pay' for it by giving the binky to the checkout person (having explained that that is what you'd be doing). GL [ Reply | More ]

my dd loved hers but we made a deal that only when she was sleeping or napping could she have it. From there it was gradually lost. She was scared straight not to use it at 3.4 yr old. She gave it up on day cold turkey when I blamed the binky on something that happened to her [ Reply | More ]

I did this because I remember as a kid I got thrush in my mouth. My mom blamed it on the binky and I gave it up then and there. My dd got some pimples around her face (prickly heat) and I said it was because of the binky. SHe gave it up instantly [ Reply | More ]

I would stop talking to him so much about it and just do the binky fairy. Have her leave a toy he can take to bed with him. And then just steel yourself for the wailing & crying. It will stop eventually. But any waffling on your part really prolongs the whole thing and makes it much harder on him. [ Reply | More ]
