well, it can be structured as part of the divorce settlement. If he was the breadwinner, he might surrender all that asset in exchange for keeping some other marital asset. Can also factor into alimony calculation. Talk to your lawyer. [ Reply | More ]

because lower scores on olsat do not mean a ds is stupider than a higher-scoring dd. they mature at different rates. to make six years of a ds's education dependent on one test that puts him at a disadvantage sucks. [ Reply | More ]

i'm not saying it's easy to correct the imbalance, but i do think they should consider testing for g&t when dcs are older and i for one don't have a problem with the onsites. ds singletons are otherwise screwed by this process. [ Reply | More ]

I agree with you. G&T should start at a later age. I would love to know why NYC started it in Kindergarten (I know all about middle class retention etc. etc. which is valid nowadays but I doubt this was the case when the G&T programs were established quite a while back). [ Reply | More ]

i think they will have to go back to gender-balancing given the completely skewed class makeups. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.30.08, 11:36 AM Flag

I don't see it as much as I'd like it. If they balance for gender, why not race, income, age, geographic diversity and any other variable they used to consider at onsites? [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.30.08, 11:50 AM Flag
»
this isn't a diversity issue. the olsat doesn't discriminate against someone from queens, but it does discriminate against boys. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.30.08, 11:51 AM Flag
»
It also discriminate against kids that did not go to preschool or did not have UMC parents read to them/teach them stuff, which happen to be the vast majority of AA/Hispanic kids. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.30.08, 11:53 AM Flag

not so fast! It does discriminate against poor kids who were not able to receive an enriched upbringing. Etc. etc. Balancing for anything is two-sided sword. [ Reply | More ]
General Topics 06.30.08, 11:54 AM Flag
»
this is another reason the olsat shouldn't be used. it discriminates against those from lower income families, sure, but let's not get carried away and say people from queens need a break as well. [ Reply | More ]
