The only time we went to see the Macy's show was before kids, and we trekked way over to a viewing spot on the West side, waited for like 2 hrs, and when the show finally began, the freaking parking garage on the pier that loads cruise ships was blocking our ENTIRE view. I would tell them that your routine is important for the kids wellbeing and if they want to see them for a few hours, they can come during the day etc. If they want to babysit for a weekend, they can let the kids stay up late if they want to because she does have a point.
