I went there and this is a ridiculous statement. First of all, it was always considered a very good school. Just very jewish. Also, calling the education provided there, public school like is about as uninformed as possible. IMO dalton has done a very good job of re marketing themselves for the new crowds of people who just arrived. The rest of us know it performs poorly in the realm of academics. Entire structure of the school is a joke 'independent learning' which is another term for 'bad teachers and lacking curriculum'. The Dalton Plan was devised for lackluster dcs who had famous parents with a lot of money. Unlike the other schools it took only fame to get in and even fewer brains to get through [ Reply | More ]

np; well, we have no money, not famous in any way, dc got 99 on erb and sb and is headed to D. I wanted D because she can delve into things more and can be self paced. She's the type who just picks up things on her own, so traditional, structured, schools with drills would not have suited her. I think people who think Dalton is a bad school are people who don't believe in progressive education. While it may not be for everyone, it is a great school for kids like mine. [ Reply | More ]

>if dd wants to go to HYP, it's fine by me, but I think it's crazy to choose a school based on college exmissions. I mean, how do these people know what their kids want to do and be? What if my dd wants to be a chef and like Bobby Flay, decides not to go to college at all? What if dd wants to be an actress or a nurse or something else that doesn't require a 4 year college education? Why are people thinking about college placement for Kindergarten admission?? Good for you. No one is disputing that you made a decision you were comfortable with. What is being disputed is your ignorant dismissal of the real life personal experiences of people who know far better than you do about the real history and reputations of these schools. This is not a contest, and god knows what 'your circles' is meant to imply. You are making this about something far greater than it is. Your limited knowledge versus someone with far greater knowledge. [ Reply | More ]

That's ridiculous. Things do change and evolve. Look at colleges - some colleges are still the same as 30-40 years ago, but others have totally transformed themselves into major national universities and attract a totally different caliber of student today than 30 years ago. Look at Duke. So it's entirely possible that Dalton has changed too and that the "natives" who graduated ages ago don't actually know everything. [ Reply | More ]

As a native NY-er who did NOT go to Dalton, I have to say that I disagree with all the statements about Dalton not being considered a good school. It definitely attracted the kids of parents who were in the arts or advertising as opposed to the WASP bankers and lawyers. [ Reply | More ]

very likely he can go 3 (even 3.5 depending on the time of day) hours at that age. just start pushing the feeding that is 2 hours to 2 hours 15 minutes for a few days, then 2 hours 30 minutes. Eventually you should be able to get all feedings to no less than every 3 hours. 7-8 is great at the beginning, but by now it is not necessary & absolutely exhausting (my night nurse pointed me in the right direction on this, & I am so grateful). we were flying home from an international adoption with 2 other couples that adopted with us, but we were all in different parts of the plane. Some dude was in the aisle, leaned over and puked all over our friend, who was holding her brand new baby (covered in a blanket, thankfully). There was not a single other seat on the plane, so she had to wander the aisles while the attendants cleaned her and her dh's seat. She had no extra clothes in her carry on. This was in the first 3 hours of a 23 hour plane journey. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] OK I know I shouldn't have, but I just took a home pregnancy test (IVF - 6 days post transfer and I'm scheduled for bloodwork this Thursday) and it was negative. Is it simply too soon to tell or am I just not willing to accept the outcome? Any insights are appreciated as I'm driving myself completely insane. 4 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

way too early... HPTs only detect the hormone above a certain level and it's much higher than the blood test can detect. i was getting neg results on HPTs but then got pos from blood test. think of it this way, if you were to get pg w/o ivf, it would take at least two weeks post conception to get a pos result- likely even longer. gl to you, hope it goes well. I got negatives from HPTs for at least 4 weeks post-conception. I was definitely pregnant. I never got a positive until I went in at 8 weeks and saw the baby on vaginal US. [ Reply | More ]

I know it's frustrating. Have you thought about an RE? They could help you rule out problems and give you options [ Reply | More ]

this is going to sound so silly and trite, esp if you have fertility issues (and if so I agree about the RE), but I have really found that the pillow under the rump trick - and stay there for 30 mins after-- is really helpful. gl [ Reply | More ]

snort. Maybe you need some yoga or something to transform your attitude dear. Yoga can change your body if it's done consistently along with other types of exercise. Breathe deeply. Relax. There, that's better isn't it? [ Reply | More ]
