Boarding Schools. I'm considering sending my DD to boarding school beginning in 9th grade. Not really looking for Ivy League college entry/silver spoon prep school, just a solid academic program with quality fine arts education and variety of athletics. My thought is that she would attend a "local" school (under 200 miles from home) and possibly do 5 dday boarding (at least in the first year). Anyone do this now? Suggestions? Live in NYC area. Because I'm a single WOHM and work in the city, but unfortunately cannot a afford to live in the city. The burbs are just too far away for me to let a high school student be alone for several hours each day until I get home. Plus, she is an only child--I think the boarding school atmosphere will benefit her. I would pick her up every Friday night. [ Reply | More

wasn't so bad. lots of kids were key children back then. By junior hshs it would really be no big deal. I'd much rather be home than commute 200 miles every single weekend. sounds horrid to me [ Reply | More
