I don't see how making the whole thing public gets her in any better place with the judge. Sure, it is a good card to play to see if he will settle, but once he wouldn't, she should have agreed to keep it private. Having the whole thing in the press only affects court of public opinion, and not actual outcome of custody dispute. Bad, bad move for the kids. [ Reply | More ]

Yes, but what if it were your neighbor (and not someone famous) and she was wronged and then went around telling everyone -- her kids' teachers, her kids' parents' friends -- and she talked about it in such a way that it was impossible to shield the kids from it? Would you still think it was okay? Yea, it sucks if your husband is a cad, but your first priority still needs to be protecting your children. [ Reply | More ]

Making it public only makes people think better of her, and less of him. The judge knows the facts whether it is public or private and it will not affect the outcome of the case. Her only rationale for making it public is to punish him or to make herself look better in the press. [ Reply | More ]

I don't think this is making her look good. Not at all. It makes her look like she'd do anything for revenge. She's also had four husbands and has publicly bad-mouthed all of them. Especially the father of her son - the one she married on a ski slope. She has made him out to be a con artist. She also said publicly that Billy Joel cheated on her, and is/was a drunk. I'm sorry, but I wonder how she contributed to these situations. [ Reply | More ]

public school K is typically far more academic than private school K. So - I don't see where you would need to suppliment at all on academic front. Public school mom here. You don't need to "supplement" her academics in any formal sense. You should simply expose her to things she might be interested in, over the course of her childhood--art classes, music lessons, sports, drama, whatever she likes. Not because she's in public school, but because that's what is good for kids. Also, kindergartners usually find kindergarten exhausting at first--I wouldn't sign up for any afterschool activities for the fall. [ Reply | More ]

PS9 is very academic, particularly the teacher who will likely teach the one class next year. It is also fairly enriched. I would say when dc was in K, they went on about 15+ field trips over the year, including museums, plays, concerts, dance, etc. The one thing I felt I needed to supplement was physical activity, especially in the winter months. the kids in the program learn a lot, and have a very good social experience, but the recess time can be cut with inclimate weather. there is a very good afterschool program, and plenty of options in the nabe. they also get spanish, chess, art/music 2x/week, etc. gym only 1x per week, recess 2x/day [ Reply | More ]

PS 9 uses Everyday Math which sucks. At the K level, it may not matter much. But if she likes math, I'd so some simple addition and subtraction with her and makes sure she's starting to learn math facts, i.e., 4+3= 7; 6+2 = 8. If she doesn't like it, don't push it. You will need to supplement math starting in first grade. You will need to supplement grammar starting in 4th. You'd be well advised to supplement writing starting in 4th because the test prep ruins their writing. PS 9, like most publics these days in NYC, does not teach history or geography and the science is very simple. But for K, I don't think you need to be concerned or supplementing. [ Reply | More ]

Honestly, I would go light on that at least in the fall. It is a hard transition for many kids (my DC was one of them) and at the end of the day he was just tired of school and wanted to play with friends. I would not do more than one afterschool during the week, and one on weekend. Then if dd does well with that you can add more in January. [ Reply | More ]

I had twins and did not show until 5 months. Just because you are already showing means nothing. I don't agree with your ob's statement of "be prepared for multiples." What is that all about. He can't tell you that and leave you hanging. You should get an ultrasound to verify. Also, your hcg levels would be very high for how far long you are. How you show in your pregnancy depends on how you are carrying. Some women carry more towards their back and that is why they appear smaller. I think you should call you doc and ask for an ultrasound. Good luck!!! :) [ Reply | More ]

They've dropped a bit everywhere, but seems like those of us on the Midtown Direct are doing a bit better, comparatively. I was very upset at the end that two of the couples actually did a fine job and were praised by the parents of the babies. I think the show backfired on the producers and sends exactly the opposite message it was intended to send. you haven't given any compelling reason that your zoned ctt class is not apporpriate except you don't like spanish speakers and your well behaved IEP dc will be negatively influenced by the poorly behaved general ed kids. Don't think DOE is going to by this - maybe work on the presentation a little more... [ Reply | More ]

i don't have anything against spanish speakers, would just like it to be a mixed class. This year's kindergarten was 100% spanish speaking families. And many of the non-IEP kids should have had IEPs. The school admittedly puts kids that they think should have an IEP becuase of behavior issues into this class b/c they don't have the services, funding or support to do something else for these kids. I'm not sure what you are looking for, if a teacher at the school told you the class is not good for your son, then ask that teacher to give you a reason to tell that to the DOE. But so far, you have said nothing specific about why your zoned CTT is not good and another unnamed CTT is better. You have to know what you are asking for and why before you ask. [ Reply | More ]

They don't have small CTT classes, so class size isn't going to get you into another CTT class. The room/school being too large isn't going to cut it either. What School do you want your child to attend? [ Reply | More ]

I'm going through this right now. It is not going to be easy and though I've had some positive conversations with my placement officer and the placement officer of the zone I would like DC in it is not a sure thing but it’s looking good. I toured the zone school twice. Noted the issues I felt were inappropriate for my DC. Put that in a letter and that I was rejecting the placement and then sent with the unsigned placement letter. I also filled out an exception request form and am now waiting to see the out come. I've been dealing with resources for children and they have really helped compose my letters and responses. The best advice they gave me was be nice but firm you get more bees with honey! Its working and no I have not yet pursued legal action but have a lawyer to call if need be. Cross your fingers for me and I hope it works out for you as well. [ Reply | More ]
