I am waiting until 3 too. If you know anyone with a peanut allergy, it is such a pita. So much better to do anything you can to avoid it. I know of someone whose child died from their peanut allergy as a teenager because they did not have their epi handy. [ Reply | More ]

waiting until 3 actually increases the risk of your child developing an allergy because they are not exposed to nuts. [ Reply | More ]

actually, it is. The disproportionate rise in nut allergies is due to underexposure by overly-cautious parents determined to "save" their children from allergies they never even had [ Reply | More ]

But if you wait till 3 and your dc is not allergic how is that increasing their risk? [ Reply | More ]

I did not wait till 3 because I felt dc had a nut allergy. I waited because ped told me to. I don't see how this could have any effect on the rise in nut allergies. Just makes no sense to me. [ Reply | More ]

May be, may not. Some medical research suggests waiting increases chances of allergies, some medical research suggests waiting decreases chances. But we do know that some peanut allergies are outgrown -- and given how dangerous they can be -- why not wait? [ Reply | More ]

So are you saying it is better to find out if dc is allergic to peanuts at a younger age so they will outgrow the allergy at a younger age? [ Reply | More ]
