[ - ] Our 8yo DD is very assertive and pushy, she gets impatient if she’s not getting her own way and will always steer things the way she wants. This isn’t much of an issue with her younger siblings but socially it’s tough as her peers don’t like it. At school she’s had issues where she’ll fall out with someone because they tell her she’s ‘annoying’ and then not include her. There are definitely times when she’s too much but how I do help her to tone it down? Thanks 14 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I have an EXTREMELY assertive 8yo daughter too. Her first words were “I do what I want, Mama” and she hasn’t backed down since. However, she now knows that she cannot act like that all the time because we won’t stand for it and it isn’t appropriate in school or any other social situations. She’s still very willful at home and not a great listener with her parents but she’s a fantastic student and super popular with her teachers and classmates. She’s got a super sunny disposition and is very sweet and cute and she knows how to work that to her advantage, but she also knows when she can’t do that and she needs to fall in line. You need to teach your dd some boundaries. It doesn’t need to be spanking, but she does need to know that she doesn’t call all the shots. [ Reply | More ]

I'm nervous but what's the other option? Stay home until the miracle vaccine comes to save us all? You know there may NEVER be a good vaccine for Covid, right? At some point we have to live our lives again and move beyond what has become an irrational fear. Sending kids to school is far, far more important than going to a restaurant or salon. I'm happy to forgo those things to lower the odds of getting ill, but my kids will go back to school. [ Reply | More ]

"what's the other option? Stay home until the miracle vaccine comes to save us all?" Theres a middle ground. They may have a vaccine by the end of the year. I know it's too far. I am just curious now that we have to submit a form, who is certain they want to keep their kids at home/stay at second home. [ Reply | More ]

The DOE survey said that 75% of NYC parents want to send their kids back to school in the fall. [ Reply | More ]

Because those who can afford to keep kids at home are a small group. Majority of public school families do not own a second home with a SAH parent and need their kids in school so they can work. [ Reply | More ]

WTF. I'm SAH and I can't wait for them to be back in the classroom. This is not a bed of roses for anyone. Not to mention, that I planned on looking for a new job in the fall... [ Reply | More ]

Why WTF? Just stating that the 75% is not surprising. Families who CAN keep kids at home are a small fraction. No one is judging anyone's choice, I am commenting on the numbers. [ Reply | More ]

i dont know why Eliza Shapiro circulated that #. Thats not the same # that the NYC survey posted online. Also, the wording was "If it were safe...". So, that can mean a LOT of different things. If it were safe to go to Florida right now, I might do that too! [ Reply | More ]

And if it were safe to socialize in close proximity without a mask, I would vote yes for that too! The wording of the question is important. [ Reply | More ]

if it were live instruction daily, i would. I think people will follow the crowd, as usual. if enough people do it, so will they, even if they have doubts about safety. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Some people were saying to move to DC Urban Mom board, but I'm not sure it's the right fit for us. It's filthy over there. I just spent 3 hours reading through the explicit relationship/sex threads. 7 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

[ - ] Just reposting today so people see - save your bookmarks, I'm going to put up a static copy of the old posts at ubarchive.net so we can at least refer to old threads if we want. It won't have a posting element, just an archive. I'm working on saving a copy of everything now but won't be done before Sunday, but just check ubarchive.net in a week or two. 9 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
