[ - ] For old times sake, let’s revisit some old debates that I haven’t seen in ages! Starting with an oldie but a goodie- bf versus ff. I breastfed my 1st for 3 weeks and it was so awful I quit and did formula. Never fed my second a drop of breast milk. I have no regrets. Flame away! 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I breastfed my two for 6 years straight because stayed at home and it was easy. There was a six month overlap where I tandem nursed. That was tougher because I had to consume so much food to do it that my dh was getting protective around his own dinner plate. *If it was uncomfortable in any way, I would not have done it.* There is zero judgement on my end about formula. I, myself, was formula fed. My biggest issue is centered on how we don't support one another enough. [ Reply | More ]

I am 57 and during Covid I let my hair go long, straight and parted in the middle. Same as I had in my 30's and 40's. I know you're not supposed to do that when you're old but I don't care. Brown with grey coming in. I look good enough. [ Reply | More ]

I am also in my late 50s. My natural hair was very dark brown before I went gray. My eyes are blue and my skin is fairly light. For the last several years, I let my hairdresser convince me to go blonde. In the last year, I decided to go back to a medium brown, and EVERYONE says it looks much better. I work in a library, and people I don't even know came up to me and told me I look younger as a brunette. Lesson I learned: I am better off sticking to the color I originally had, and keeping it blunt cut. [ Reply | More ]

To every person who has ever taken a moment to write in a kind word, an encouraging response, a piece or wisdom, a helpful hint or just something that made me laugh out loud: thank you. Truly. Totally agree. I initially came here to be snarky and superior, and eventually was changed by the people here who were kind and offered thoughtful advice. In the early days I posted comments I would be ashamed of now, and became someone who thought "would I say this IRL to a friend" before commenting. Being here made me more empathic. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I've been reading through my watched posts (I have 400 pages of them) and getting a little emotional. I know people here have a reputation for being snarky and rude, but I am seeing pages of people providing helpful and supportive responses to all sorts of things. I laugh at some of the problems I posted about here -- like preschool problems that I don't even remember now and seem trivial now that the preschooler in question is 10 -- but people were so helpful! And some of the snark is really funny. ;) [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] Should I buy a stroller that can be converted into a double stroller? I really like the bugaboo fox which is non convertible, vs the uppababy vista which is convertible but much heavier. Pg with DC1 now and likely want DC2 when the first is age 2.5-3. Do toddlers need strollers at that age? Will I regret buying a nonconvertible? 8 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

I agonized over this decision. None of them will cover what you want every time, especially living in NYC. Sometimes, I wanted something light that I could jump on the subway with, or pop the baby into a Bjorn and carry the stroller and sometimes, I wanted something bigger to walk with and hang my stuff on. Sometimes, you'll want to push both kids, sometimes, you'll only have one and then a double stroller is a giant PITA. Sometimes, your 2 yr. old will want to ride on a kick board, sometimes they'll get tired and want to jump in. And you won't want to constantly be converting strollers. SO, I bought a cheap, lightweight one, a single one and a double. Each trip, I'd grab what I wanted, throw in the kick board, etc. [ Reply | More ]

I would get the non-convertible. Then when #2 arrives you can do an add-on board or get an umbrella/lightweight double. The huge full-sized doubles seem unnecessary and impractical unless you have twins or dcs super close in age. [ Reply | More ]

We had bugaboo and love loved love it. I had 7 strollers (and only one child) and it was my favorite. People love vista but hate it as a double. I would get a stroller that you want and deal with the second when the time comes. [ Reply | More ]

There's not really a best stroller. Get the one that speaks to your heart for when the baby is an infant. I loved my Bug and then I also had an UppaBaby Lite (or something like that - they don't make it anymore), which was an awesome portable stroller for a toddler. You're going to buy more than one over the years - I ended up having three - the Bug, the UppaBaby umbrella stroller, and another double - and they each served their own purpose. [ Reply | More ]

ITA. I had a bugaboo when my first was born in 2006. I loved it but it’s clunky and not super portable so when he turned 1 I got a maclaren umbrella stroller which was better when I was out and about and in and out of my car [ Reply | More ]

You also need a very savvy tax person. All dollars are not created equal, look carefully at adjusted basis of everything. What property and money will be worth down the road really matters as well as how they will be taxed (cap gains versus regular income.) Don't take deferred money even if it's more as you don't want to have to chase after it. Get a life insurance policy on DH but make sure you own it. Make sure you're the beneficiary of any pensions, file the proper papers so company knows. Try to estimate what you will need going forward; no ability to reduce money if income goes down.
