My dd had viral encephalitis so, I know exactly how you feel. It interesting because my perspective on going through that experience is so opposite of yours. just so you know, C took 2 new girls this year and S took at least 1 for 3rd grade. B actively looks for girls starting with 4th grade.....It would be improbable that these three top ss schools take only 3 new students in 13 years. We know that T takes 60 and HM starts growing in 6th grade. So perhaps C takes only 3 new kids, but it is the only tt that I know of that could possibley be doing what you say. [ Reply | More ]

our school is up to 8th grade. I didn't want a 13 yr pgrm for my kids. By the time I graduated in 8th grade I was very ready for a change of scenery. I liked co-ed for k-8 and prefer SS for HS (if that is what dc wants) [ Reply | More ]

There are plenty of spots and the advantage is that you can choose a school that is best for DCs learning ability and interests. The K-8s do a great job with exmissions and many kids at K-12 move around as well in HS. GL [ Reply | More ]

They can go down the run to a lower string firm, maybe make partner there but the $ will suck. They can also make a lateral move on to the client side, also not very lucrative. This is the myth that all lawyers make big bucks, most of them are terminally upper middle class [ Reply | More ]

ok, but still. Most lawyers in NYC (at corp firms) make mid-six figures when they're above the first few years. Even at small firms they make solid 200K or more... that is nowhere near poor [ Reply | More ]

You don't have to be partner to make money in law. If you are a general counsel at regular company the money is great and hours much more sane. Not so easy to get there, but probably similar shots to making a partner at biglaw. [ Reply | More ]

It was long and nasty... unnecessarily. I married my dh last year because he is my best friend, I love and respect him will all my heart, and i have known him for a number of years. We are both the children of older parents and didn't want to wait too long to have kids. That's all. [ Reply | More ]

Wow, good for you. I'm just glad that you made up your own mind to choose a family over a career first, etc. Do you think your school (TT) experience helped you to decide for or against your decision? Thanks. I wouldn't say I've chosen one over the other, I'm hoping to be able to do both, within reason (and no, my parents do not own the gallery I run, nor did they help me get my job in any way). I think going to a good girls school made me very self-sufficient and able to work hard to achieve my goals. Somewhat of the "militant fem ideals" but also a more modern approach. I haven't been criticized by anyone from my school for marrying young - and i'm not the only one who has. [ Reply | More ]

Thanks for answering. I didn't realize you were working as well. i was just thinking of all my friends in the city who worked their bottom off until mid 30's, got married in late 30's and TTC'ed around 40 - very hard to have db's, etc. I thought TT SS might encourage the same path for their grads, but it's good to hear you are balancing family and work. I think it does for some people, but that wasn't what I wanted once I met my dh. (I did actually think I'd wait and marry mid-30s). this discussion is absurd -- plenty of women get married in their mid-20s, including most of my sister's friends for some reason, all of whom were raised in New York, and have careers. many of these women had already graduated or were near to graduating from graduate school by their mid-20s. it's not THAT young.
