[ - ] In a pickle. I still "cuddle" ( I lay down w/ him until he's out) my 8 mo down for naps and sleep. He was a VERY fussy newborn, and this was the only way to get him down. Now? He's used to it and cries if I just put him in his crib. My dad watches him 2 days a week and my mom watches him the other 3. Both have to do the same for naps, but they say they love it, so who cares? Still, I wonder if I'm doing a disservice, as he cannot fall asleep on his own. I feel like I'm in a permanent situation here, how do I (we) stop? 3 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

A 'tt' private school is a school that has proven decade after decade that colleges - HYP and other top colleges - have no problem taking an over proportionate number of students from because the education is so excellent that any student who managed to get through the HS is a going to be a guaranteed performer. I wouldn't know how to tabulate based on %tile. But the schools are are absolutely there every year are the same because they each come within one or two students (points :-) of great exmissions for their class size, so that would be B, S, C and Collegiate, Trinity and HM. I think the schools that people on UB call "2nd tier" would be those schools that generally still do very well on exmissions but either not as consistently or as extensively as the TT schools. As for 3rd tier, I think that's schools that traditionally had a student body who went to a more diverse group of colleges - with far fewer at top colleges. Schools that in the past have not been specifically geared towards really smart high- achieving kids, but more for educating a more "average" student body. Things are changing on this front as schools become more and more competetive to get into. The so-called 4th tier, I would say is comprised of new schools with little to no track record OR schools that traditionally catered (and perhaps still do) towards lower performing students (mild LD, etc.) [ Reply | More ]

^^^ The K-8 schools's ranking is complicated by the fact that their "exmissions" is to HS (rather than directly to college). Many on UB will say that since not 100% (or close to) of their grads go on to TT HS, that by definition, they cannot be TT. [ Reply | More ]

"The opening of the ANWR 1002 Area to oil and natural gas development is projected to increase domestic crude oil production starting in 2018. In the mean ANWR oil resource case, additional oil production resulting from the opening of ANWR reaches 780,000 barrels per day in 2027 and then declines to 710,000 barrels per day in 2030. In the low and high ANWR oil resource cases, additional oil production resulting from the opening of ANWR peaks in 2028 at 510,000 and 1.45 million barrels per day, respectively. Between 2018 and 2030, cumulative additional oil production is 2.6 billion barrels for the mean oil resource case, while the low and high resource cases project a cumulative additional oil production of 1.9 and 4.3 billion barrels, respectively." Right! Read the NY Times editorial Big Pander to Big Oil (June 19, 2008)--sorry, I don't know how to attach link. The oil companies already have leases to dig on dry land that they don't make use of--they are drilling in only a fraction of them. They are pressing Bush to lift the ban on offshore drilling so they can grab up the leases before Bush leaves. They should be forced to use the leases they have before being given new ones offshore. Also, as the article points out, there is no way that the country that consumes 25 percent of oil production can drill its way out of a problem when they own only 3 percent of the reserves. You are dreaming if you think the environmental risk of offshore drilling is going to give you relief at the pump.[ [ Reply | More ]

yes. He is more relaxed around his family of course, but he also gets worked up and they sometimes have big fights. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells around everyone. Sounds fun doesn't it? [ Reply | More ]

At least its temporary- one week, then its over. Keep that in mind. If you have to endure it, remind yourself that it is only 1 week. [ Reply | More ]

A week is a long time even to be with family you like. Can you pull back as dh is getting wound up and just watch him being wound up- without reacting to him? You don't have to like the people, just be civil and decent, bring a good book, and take walks to get away. Maybe some wine, too [ Reply | More ]

maybe this will make you feel better: i already spent 10 days on vacation with the inlaws in the spring. we've got our family trip coming up in a few weeks and guess who just decided to join us? yep - the inlaws. they're not staying WITH us but got a condo about a mile up the beach from ours. didn't even ask and no - they are not easy to be around. let's make a deal - i'll bite my tongue if you'll bite yours. and you drink for me b/c i'm pg. or: we've been married for 10 years and while it took me a while to figure out, this is a train that can not be stopped. this is really not about him putting his foot down. i know it seems easy to say we should just tell them no but it doesn't work like that. [ Reply | More ]

lol - trust me - dh tried to change the week but couldn't make it work b/t his projects and our kids' school calendar. it would have been the best way to deal but now it's either deal with his parents or back out completely. [ Reply | More ]
