[ - ] Help me out: DD just turned 2 this week. She used to be a great sleeper (aside from some sep. anxiety issues which involved lots of screaming for 10 days - but that was months ago). Lately she goes to bed at the same time 7.30 but it takes her over an hour to fall asleep. She isn't fussy at all, she just plays and jumps and talks to herself. However, she is EXHAUSTED. I tried an earlier bedtime and she still didn't go to sleep until almost 9. Any advice? Her napping is still the same. 18 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

np I think it's fascinating how our attitudes about this have changed. My grandmother took care of her siblings after her mother died when G< was 13, Then she raised her own family. Then she basically raised 2 of her kid's kids (weird circumstances involving mental health issues of spouses) She was the least bitter person I ever met, just happy and wanting to help everyone. I think children are part of your family and no one should revolve their lives around anyone else. You shouldn't negligect yourself or your spouse for your child. However, all people should get the attention they require, and little kids and babies require a lot of attention. And certainly less than your spouse who presumably can take care of himself. I think women who make their lives "revolve" around their kids are headed for 2 outcomes 1) lonely sad and depressed when their kids grow up and don't need them as much and they realize they have nothing else or 2) bitter and angry when they realize they have sacrificed and given up everyting for kids who have grown up and don't need them anymore. I also think that women who's lives "revolve" around their kds are completely unbearable to be around. You need a balance. Your kids should be your proirity, without having everyning in your world revolve around them. [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] advice? i want to sahm. DH wants me to keep wohm. i have a stable and extremely lucrative job so i know now is not the right time to quit - however the deeper issue here is i dont think my DH would value my contributions as a SAHM, although i know in my heart it would be the right thing for my 3 dcs. tia if you have any thoughts 13 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]

My mom was a sahm and my dad definitely did not value her contribution. He would blame her for their money troubles. Interestingly enough my sisters and I all wohm. What are your hours like at work? Do you have alot of flexibility? [ Reply | More ]

door to door usually 7-6 although i have quite a bit of flexibility (rarely miss school events). Some travel but i typically work from home after every business trip. live in the suburbs so i cant do their drop off pick up every day. as they get older i feel that i could be so helpful being the one who hears about their day immediately after school, hears the chatter in the back seat - i feel that they need me more. Could you possibly work from home one day a week? It is a tough call to make considering your dh's feelings. In addition, being there for your kids is important but so is job/financial stability. [ Reply | More ]

can you find a happy medium - like cut back hours or job share? my brother is like this with my SIL. He is a real jerk about her not working and complains constantly about her spending habits (she is always scheming ways of making $ from home too) [ Reply | More ]

i dont think you should quit especially as he is already sending negative vibes. it'll just become a huge problem between the two of you. i agree with poster above about a medium, maybe do 1 or 2 days at home? being a sahm only works when both parents agree on it [ Reply | More ]

I don't have advice, but your post makes me so sad. Your DH really can't see the value of your staying at home? He can't support your choice? I SAH and DH had a crappy but lucrative job for 3 years; I would have, and told him, we could switch (I'd look for a job) or that I'd support any career decision he wanted. he just accepted a position for 30 percent less pay and we are both so happy about it. how much do you make and how much does your dh make? would your lifestyle change if you stopped working? What kind of savings do you have? [ Reply | More ]

The 2-3 hours every day after school are exhausting, but something I personally would not trade for all the money in the world. [ Reply | More ]

This is a tough one, I know, we have 3 dcs . Could you try to work out a deal at work so that you can get in earlier and telecommute 2 or 3 afternoons a week? It is great to be home with them, but the return to work after the ten year nap is pretty difficult to do, and that's when the college tuitions start. Believe me, I know. [ Reply | More ]

op: thanks everyone, i appreciate the help. it makes me sad too but it is what it is - our relationship and life are really great, and i do make a lot of $$ especially for hours. i like the shifting my hours to be home earlier idea. i will continue talking to DH about it and maybe i get a chance to make a change when the economy improves [ Reply | More ]

[ - ] have to say, I'm pg with #3 and just saw ultrrasound yesterday. It has been awhile sicne i have been pg and we are so wrapped up in our lives and other kids that I don't really focus on it and I had forgotten how cool it is to see the little creature growing inside you. Now I just have to remember to stop eating soft cheese and drinking coffee. just thought I'd share. 5 Replies [ Reply | Watch | More ]
