If you're asking what is the point of the OP, I asked just out of curiosity. I wondered what's typical in NYC. We visited family out of state a while back and I was surprised their dc had almost no books and tons of DVDs. SIL told me they were typical. [ Reply | More ]

Riiight, not so much "just curious" but trying to get validation that your SIL lives in a low-class area where people don't read (and that she's probably a bitch, but you didn't really go there.) [ Reply | More ]

Um, no. My SIL and brother live in a nice neighborhood outside of DC and aren't even close to "low-class" nor is she a bitch. Sorry I can't say the same for you. And if I HAD wanted to snark on them for some reason, I would have brought it up in my original post. And where did I say they don't read? They read, but they borrow everything from the library. Considering they have a big house I was surprised they own almost no books, and they were surprised we had so many considering we live in an apartment that's a lot smaller than their house. First of all don't store your eggs in a cold fridge until you are ready to cook. (A little secret: eggs don't need to be refrigerated. I worked in a grocery store as a kid. The eggs never saw anything below room temp before they hit the cooler for people to buy them.) If the yolk is warmer before cooking you will have better results. That is where I would start my experiment. This sounds like a question for America's test kitchen/Cooks Illustrated. [ Reply | More ]

Breakfast is the easiest meal to master. Decent pancakes are like five dry ingredients you can mix in batches a head of time and three/four* wet ingredients you add when you want them. (For really great pancakes separate your eggs and add the whites to the milk(butter milk) and the yolks to the melted butter. Hence the three/four.) Omelets are easy and quick and a great way to get rid of leftovers. Get a bottle of oyster sauce and leave it in the fridge. This one ingredient will move your omelets from good to GREAT! well, I happen to know a ton of parents doing this, and all say the MS is what is hard not to try for. one admitted she wanted the prestige, but still felt the MS option and avoiding that process in the years to come was reason enough to try. don't think I am delusional, as we are one of the families doing this. Given that you are at neither school, i would say you know very little about how people feel there. [ Reply | More ]
