If you're asking what is the point of the OP, I asked just out of curiosity. I wondered what's typical in NYC. We visited family out of state a while back and I was surprised their dc had almost no books and tons of DVDs. SIL told me they were typical. [ Reply | More ]

Riiight, not so much "just curious" but trying to get validation that your SIL lives in a low-class area where people don't read (and that she's probably a bitch, but you didn't really go there.) [ Reply | More ]

Um, no. My SIL and brother live in a nice neighborhood outside of DC and aren't even close to "low-class" nor is she a bitch. Sorry I can't say the same for you. And if I HAD wanted to snark on them for some reason, I would have brought it up in my original post. And where did I say they don't read? They read, but they borrow everything from the library. Considering they have a big house I was surprised they own almost no books, and they were surprised we had so many considering we live in an apartment that's a lot smaller than their house. We are the odd ones out. 2 years old, 0 DVDs (we DVR Dora. We had Baby Mozart or Bach but she played with it and ruined it/got obsessed with the container) and maybe twelve books. She goes to daycare four days, and we read every night before bed. [ Reply | More ]

-- Do you think the people go to the library? It's easier in the suburbs. I hate hate clutter so I'm going to start taking out books from there for DD as we don't own so many. [ Reply | More ]

DD almost 5. I'm afraid to count the books. Maybe 800? Also a ton of DVDs--maybe 30--because I used to work for Disney and got a discount on all those bloody princess movies. [ Reply | More ]

Woah, Nellie. Chill. These books are tiny, cost $6 on average and they are given in piles. It's easy to collect them and hard to throw them out. It has nothing to do with educated or uneducated, low or high class. [ Reply | More ]
